1. You know, I was thinking about how it's odd |
|
that we haven't seen the whole flame war and hand wringing about human sewage who speak ill of the dead with either Carlin or Helms that we saw with Russert.
Surely Helms is just as freshly dead as Russert was and so surely telling the truth about him, much less outright insults, means that you are a horrible nasty piece of human trash? So where are the legions of posts and threads chiding and waving their fingers and telling us that?

2. I think there are a significant group of folks who liked Russert |
|
I don't think that is the case, at least at DU, about Helms. Russert occasionally did the right thing. I can't remember Helms ever doing so.

9. I agree, but I think that the poster's point was the self-righteousness. |
|
Instead of saying, "I liked Tim Russert and I think you guys are mean to pick on him now that he's dead" we were treated to weeks of "I'm appalled by this hideous grave-dancing behavior have you no sense of human decency shame on you!!!!"
If it was shameful and indecent to criticize one person in death then it would follow that it is equally shameful and indecent to criticize another. I mean, we were told that it was the behavior, not the target, right?

4. I've been wondering the same thing for days. |
|
I figured since it was a holiday weekend, most people missed the news either here or from whatever news service they use to stay current.
I wasn't looking so much for a celebration, just some sort of...reaction.

8. I guess I had hoped for a broader discussion on his vicious policies. |

Kind of a "look at how far we've come" retrospective.
It's funny sometimes around here that the ones who actually had to power to create and obstruct legislation barely register a blip when they pass.
While figures like Russert, Carlin, Anna Nicole Smith, Tammy Faye, fuck, even Laura Branigan register more screen time here.
As much as this community complains about how the news has been canceled, they sure follow suit with what merits "real" news around DU.

12. his cruelty and hatred were too intense |
|
for any civil discourse. He's dead. I'm glad. If it weren't so hot, I'd dance.

5. Helms was a piece of excrement who tried to hide that fact |
|
behind the courtly manners of an old southern gentleman.
He didn't fool any of us.
That's why you didn't see anybody jumping on people who called him a piece of excrement.

10. Well, that must mean that most people are in agreement in what a loathsome piece of shit Helms was. |
|
And most were fans of Carlin.
What else needs to be said?
Tim Russert played himself off as a regular guy when the evidence suggested otherwise and most people here felt that it should be pointed out while he was undeservedly canonized by the Corporate Media.
Boo hoo!
