Obama's Plane - Passengers were told they might have to Assume Brace Position
By the time we all heard about it the unscheduled stop that the campaign plane of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, made in St. Louis yesterday was ultimately uneventful. But the incident was quite dicey there for a spell.

As the pilot struggled to re-gain control of the pitch of the plane - the angle of the nose of the plane - Obama was told that he and the other 44 passengers on board might have to assume the brace position upon landing, bending forward with their heads between their knees.

That ultimately did not happen, but National Transportation Safety Board chairman Mark Rosenker told ABC News' Dennis Powell yesterday that the incident "is extremely serious in this particular case."

An inflatable slide in the tail cone of the plane had deployed, making control of the plane tough. "There are hydraulic lines back there," Rosenker says. 'There are control cables that deal with the elevators and other area's of control surfaces for the aircraft, and could potentially make it extremely difficult if not impossible to fly the aircraft."

And for the :tinfoilhat: This was not Obama's regular campaign plane, which is being overhauled. It was a loaner, having previously been used by Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY.

And no I'm not implying anything about Clinton being involved. Now the BFEE - Mike Malloy might go nuts on this one.

3. Don't think much of Hillary do you?
Kidding! But I got a big laugh once when a freeper said that Hillary should not ever be VP because no man should be the only thing standing between Hillary and being President.

4. Re-read it - from OP article
Obama was told that he and the other 44 passengers on board might have to assume the brace position upon landing, bending forward with their heads between their knees.

That ultimately did not happen...

6. Whats the big deal?
Most of us have been in a "brace position" (bending forward with their heads between their knees)the last 7.5 years.

10. not once
have I, nor anyone I know who flies frequently, been told this.

What's the big deal? An African American Presidential candidate in a country well known for past assasinations of liberal leaders being told that his plane might make an emergency landing, or God forbid crash, is a big deal.

13. Late July or Early Aug 1989
Just after the horrible crash in Souix Falls I was on a plane from Toronto to Chicago O'Hare. The Hydrolics went out and we had to dump fuel over Lake Michigan and upon landing the pilot had us BRACE for the emergency landing. They used the manual? brakes which smoked and were cooled down by the Chicago Fire Dept which raced along next to us from our touchdown to when we stopped. The plane was then towed to the gate. This was quite a hairy experience BUT could have been worse.

16. I've thought of it as being stuck in the back seat while the drunk stepfather drives 100mph...
...toward a cliff and we all try and reason with him but he just keeps smirking and reaching back to rub the tops of our heads and talks in some bizarre phoney slurred faux Texas dialect while mom keeps saying "impeachment is off the table" and we say "Mom, wtf does that mean?" . . .

I guess the "brace position" metaphor works, too.
