Just bury the man and shut up already.

1. He was a disgusting, right wing, racist, homophobic piece of shit.
There...now just dump his body in the ground already.

2. Will they be burying him in secrecy so his grave won't be defiled?
I hope not. :grr:

5. Good Lord, no. If only they would bury him in secrecy and silence!
The lovefest going on here in this state is unbelievable. Darth Cheney is down the road in Raleigh filling the entire state with his foul stench. People like Mitch McConnell are here talking about what a "kind, generous man" Helms was. It just goes on and on. You'd have to read it to believe it. Thank God I'm nowhere near a television.

3. I feel bad for you! I didn't even hear anything about it
until today!!! And that was online. The local media here has been mute about it! :P

4. Now the onslaught will begin.

Schools, streets, post offices, stadiums and others will be renamed after this scumbag.

They ought to pass a law to only allow things named after RayGun to be renamed after Jesse.

6. "a good family man" and all that crap
makes me want to puke

He *delighted* in being a racist and homophobe and a sexist. He was vile.

"Homosexuals are weak, morally sick wretches." ~ Jesse Helms, 1995

7. I live in North Carolina
I really haven't noticed more than what you'd usually see when a former senator dies.

I did hear two fellow North Carolinians call in to NPR about him - one said he was glad that Helms was gone and the other just got to say something about his racism before the guest on the show started yelling.

8. It's what they're saying that revolts me.
I know that it's traditional to say "nice" things about people when they die but you would think it was Mother Theresa they're burying today. I kid you not.

16. I think I heard that bit.

The guy defending Helms used the Robert Byrd excuse, and said Helms did lots of good things, like expand NATO and censor art.

9. CNN apparently changed his death-day to July 4
Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 05:29 PM by SoCalDem
Their crawl now says he died Friday..

edit:

I guess he DID die on 7-4.. I could have sworn, when I heard about it on 7-4, the newsies all said he died "yesterday".. I guess they kept up CPR until after midnight so he could go out like a patriot

11. They've been saying that in North Carolina since Friday.
Right out of the gate they were comparing him to Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. See, they all died on July 4. I can't vomit any more. I've moved on to the dry heaves.

12. Seriously. It's too much.
I still can't believe they aired his freaking funeral on the big three TV stations today.

I do have to give WRAL some credit for saying he was loathsome in one of the online articles. The comments to the articles are frightening. We still have lots of nut jobs here.

13. And yesterday they ran the viewing as a live feed for hours!
You could watch, mesmerized, as people waddled up to his body and looked down in the casket. For hours.

15. I was holed-up in the office all day
blissfully secluded from any wall-to-wall coverage.

Even in death, the man deserves no respect for the thousands of beautiful lives he ruined.

Sorry you have to endure any fawning recollections of that vile man.

18. I haven't been anywhere near a tv or radio in ages.
Just clicking on my local news blog and checking the headlines of the local papers hasn't been safe.

WRAL just said Biden and Dodd went to the funeral. I can understand why Easley needed to go but why those two?
