"Yuck", is a racist word.
Sometimes I wonder if England would be any different from what it is now than if the Germans had landed on the beaches in 1939 and taken control... :eyes:

Nursery alert for racist toddlers
Child at nursery
Saying: "Yuck!" may have a racist root, the guide says

Nursery staff must be alert for racist remarks among toddlers, a government-sponsored agency report has said.

The National Children's Bureau guide, Young Children and Racial Justice, is meant to help identify potentially racist attitudes in youngsters.

It is an umbrella group for bodies working with children and young people in England and Northern Ireland.

The 336-page guide said staff should investigate the reasons behind apparent racial prejudice.

Name-calling

It said: "A child may react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying, 'Yuck!"'.

That may indicate a lack of familiarity with that particular food, or "more seriously a reaction to a food associated with people from a particular ethnic or cultural community".

It also warned: "Racist incidents among children in early-years settings tend to be around name-calling, casual thoughtless comments and peer group relationships."

Staff should be watchful of children using racist language, it added.

Guide author Jane Lane said: "The book is about being alert and asking questions, being sensitive and never attacking a child, but always trying to think about why they may have said or done something."

1. Someone has entirely
too much free time on their hands.

Not liking a particular food when you're 2 does not imply racism is at work.

3. How much did it cost the taxpayers for a 336 page guide of nonsense.
I'm certainly not racist toward Aussies and Kiwis, but their vegemite tastes like crap...

15. First of all, the NCB doesn't get most of its funding from taxpayers...
It's classed as 'semi-independent'. Much of its money is from other sources. We may have contributed a bit.

Secondly, it's a bit rash to conclude that it's a '336 page guide of nonsense' because of one quote, possibly out of context. The press tend to pick up whatever makes a good sound-byte. They certainly aren't going to do a good summary of a 336-page book! The book may be rubbish - lots of books are. But one can't conclude that from whatever the Torygraph says.

4. If one makes enough inferences, anything *could* be a sign of racism....
... But it's funny how the OP tootles the white-unity horn by portraying the article as claiming something it never actually did claim.

And now cue all of the Anti-"political correctness"-white-unity people.

10. Why?
Because I posted "is a" instead of "may have"?

Regardless of what I posted... nonsense is nonsense.

It just boggles my mind that someone would be that anally PC that they'd even think a childs reaction to distasteful ethnic foods might be an indicator of racist thoughts.

Oh yeah... Brussels sprouts. liver and onions and deep fried palm grubs are still 'yuckey'

13. Fup duck
Your post reminded me of a fun little novella written by James Dodge I read years ago. I recently re-read it so my thoughts of it were close to the top of the dung heap I call my memory.

Published in 1983, Fup is the story of a cantankerous grandfather, his gentle grandson, and their pet, a 20-pound mallard duck (the grandfather named the duck because he thought Fup duck was funny). Born in 1880 the grandfather spends most of his 100 years tending his stills, sleeping, and drinking his 194-proof whiskey called Ol' Death Whisper, which he believes will keep him alive forever. The grandson is a master fence builder and spends his time building, dividing their enormous Northern California ranch with fencing, and hunting the giant wild boar that keeps tearing up the fences. Compared on the book jacket to Tom Robbins or Mark Twain, Dodge's style reminds me more of a Richard Brautigan. It's not quite as poetic, but is just as original, odd, and hilarious.

14. You are letting our right-wing press play you like a fiddle!
If you don't believe everything in the Torygraph (as it's called here) and the Daily Mail, I won't believe everything in Fox News and Rush Limbaugh's talk-show. Is it a deal?

'Sometimes I wonder if England would be any different from what it is now than if the Germans had landed on the beaches in 1939 and taken control... '

Oh yes. Because allowing someone to put a silly statement in a book (and this is NOT a government directive, and has no power) is just exactly the same thing as putting people into concentration camps!
