Mrs. G's Family Archives - a video treasure trove for music lovers . . .
whilst browsing YouTube, I happened upon the page of one Jackie Guthrie (aka Mrs. Arlo) ("I married that wandering folk singer 38 years ago," she says) on which she has graciously posted over 200 videos from her personal collection . . . thus the title "Mrs. G's Family Archives" . . .

http://www.youtube.com/user/jguth3

this collection is a true goldmine for music fans . . . the videos capture mostly Guthrie family performances over the past quarter century or more, with a heavy focus on Arlo at every age and every stage of his career . . . classics like "Alice's Restaurant" and "The Motorcycle Song" are included, as are several in concert performances {"Live at Wolf Trap") with Pete Seeger, as well as some Pete solos . . . there are also performances by Sarah Lee Guthrie, Abe Guthrie, the G-Babes (Guthrie women), and lots of other family stuff . . . some of the most interesting videos are clips from "The Byrds of Paradise," the tv show that featured Arlo as hipster Alan Moon way back in the mid-90s . . .

neat as all that is, it's the videos featuring non-Guthries that provide some of the most fun . . . a little browsing uncovered gems by the likes of Jeffy Jeff Walker, Sonny Terry, David Bromberg, Joe & Eddie (60s gospel/folk duo), the late Steve Goodman, Bob Lind ("Elusive Butterfly"), Willie Nelson, and The Dillards, among others . . . I spent over an hour just playing around, and plan to go back for more when time permits . . .

there's really some great, great stuff here, much of which has never before been available for public viewing . . . it's well worth a visit, but be forewarned -- you can spend a lot of time browsing, viewing, and listening to some absolutley wonderful music . . .

enjoy . . . :hi:

2. Is your screen name from this song by Pete Seeger?

One blue sky above us,
One ocean, lapping all our shores.
One earth so green and round,
Who could ask for more?

And because I love you
I'll give it one more try
To show my rainbow race
It's too soon to die.

Some folks want to be like an ostrich;
Bury their heads in the sand
Some hope for plastic dreams
To unclench all those greedy hands.

Some want to take the easy way:
Poisons, bombs! They think we need 'em.
Don't they know you can't kill all the unbelievers.
There's no shortcut to freedom

One blue sky above us,
One ocean, lapping all our shores.
One earth so green and round,
Who could ask for more?

And because I love you
I'll give it one more try.
To show my rainbow race
It's too soon to die.

Go tell, go tell all the little children!
Go tell mothers and fathers, too:
Now's our last chance to learn to share
What's been given to me and you

One blue sky above us,
One ocean, lapping all our shores.
One earth so green and round,
Who could ask for more?

4. matter of fact, it is . . . I knew and worked with Pete in the late 60s and early 70s . . .
on the Hudson River Sloop CLEARWATER project, and we've remained in touch off and on over the years . . . I'll occasionally run into him at some festival or other, and once in awhile just get a note or a postcard right out of the blue on some topic or other . . . he remains a hero of mine, and a major influence in my own life . . .

and I love that song! . . . (the title of which, btw, is My Rainbow Race . . . :hi:
