6. Not really... McCain vs. Obama... not really possible to have a clearer picture, is it?
I'm referring to the "I won't vote for him" bullshit... not the complaints.

I'm complaining myself. :)

her monthly draft to Obama's campaign. She said she feels like she needs to take stock of what she gives him now on a day-by-day basis. But yes, she is still voting for him.

i can only hope some of them tried to disguise themselves by actually donating to Skinner & gang..

14. It does not surprise me
Obama got a lot of people excited and revved about politics for the first time during this race. If one had not been here a long time, I can see where the disappointment which would be new to them would be a blow. As a long timer here, today was a big blow to me even though I expected the outcome. I can't imagine how it would feel to an idealistic newcomer.

But would an idealistic newcomer tell us all that because of this, that suddenly they've decided it's better to just vote for McCain? As the one brave troll did earlier in its idiotic swan song?

25. I don't know
maybe they were a moderate republican who decided to cross the aisle and vote Dem this time, bought the hype, and thought he would make everything all better. I can't get into anyone else's head. Maybe the poster was a troll. Who knows? I only know this is a sad day for me and I am having a day where I feel like giving up myself. I will feel differently tomorrow (I hope) but I am at a low point. The past 7 years have been very wearing on my psyche.
What amazes me is that I would bet none of the legislators got more than a handful of calls supporting this legislation but a whole boatload of calls against it and they thumbed their noses at all of us. Protesting on the street does not work anymore, calls and letters do not work. I don't know what will anymore.

Any republicans who crossed over to vote for Obama... and then say because of this they're now going back... is not sincere.

I'm sorry you're feeling so discouraged... but are you even slightly tempted not to vote for Obama?

... and I'm not leaving. I'm learning a great deal here, and will vote for Obama regardless of our differences on individual issues.

I haven't been around these parts (DU) long... but I've hung around enough internet discussion forums to see how the dynamics work... and I've been on this planet long enough to know that you can't please all the people all of the time (and you can't please some of the people ANY of the time).

And let's get REAL: There's no way, no how, I will EVER vote for McSame.

Especially when some of those who posted on those "other" sites were so quick to jump on McCain's bandwagon out of "spite". Bullshit. They were rethugs all along, only pretending to be Hillary supporters.

Most true Democrats realize just how important this election is.

I lurked a long time before joining, and I've had my account since around may or something but today is the first time I've posted anything and I don't plan on stopping now!

Of course I'm not always pleased with what every single Democrat does each day. I'm still loyal to my party and to the site. I love DU and I'd never leave it. It's encouraged me to be the best liberal I can be, and I thank DU and all of it's posters infinitely for that.

36. Kind of sad
I haven't noticed a radical change in the political process lately, you know what I mean? Obama is doing what I expected, oh, not any one specific thing-- but he's running for president using the same political tools that have been in place for a while now. McCain is not an option. Probably shouldn't even be on the ticket, and it's a sad commentary about republicans that he's all they got. Oh hell, look at dubya.

What do we have? Far and away, not only a exponentially better candidate, a more humane and compassionate human being and someone who just might, open the door for some real changes. That's my hope. Instant gratification, I didn't expect.

One thing though--just personal speculation. McCain gives me the impression he's moved to the right. Obama, toward the "center" (I also think Obama was always there, but what do I know) Perhaps Senator Obama is being pragmatic, given the soulless, disgusting, damaged state of right wing ideology. He comes off better in any comparison.

Frankly, I'll take the center over the right hands down. No matter where I fall on political compass, which is very left. A lesson I learned from the Reagan adminstration.

37. Instant-gratification types,...are forever frustrated and frequently give up.
It's ashame because, CLEARLY, THEY JUST DO NOT GET the sacrifice that's been required to get us where we are as short of accomplishment as that point may seem.

Like it or not, accept reality or NOT,...there is a "game" that must be played in order to attain ANY position of influence but, especially the position of our 'presidency'.

Personally, I am grateful every damn moment we get OVER ourselves and reach for something better than WHAT IS! While so many cling to the notion of 'choosing between two evils', I choose to REACH FOR BETTER THAN WHAT IS,....and I ask what is wrong with that?

40. What is this, the 1000+ Post Club?
I gave up on Obama yesterday. Go on and call me whatever, but I've realized that its just not worth my time. He doesn't care and the government doesn't care. I'm an individual, and I choose to not participate anymore. Judging by the posts in this thread, I think I'll go by the library and check out a copy of Ayn Rand's Anthem. I've no obligation to live for others if they can't make the right choice.

46. Suggested theme song..
(Gladys Knight)

It's sad to think we're not gonna be here
And it's gotten to the point
Where we just can't fake it
For some ungodly reason
We just won't let it be

I guess neither one of us
Neither one of us wants to be the first to say good-bye

I keep wondering
Wondering
What I'm gonna do without you
And I guess you must be wondering the same thing too
So we go on
Go on together
Living a lie

Because I guess neither one of us
Neither one of us wants to be the first to say good-bye

Everytime I find the nerve
Everytime I find the nerve to say I'm leaving
Memories
Those old memories get in my way
Lord knows it's only me
Only know it's me
That I'm missing you
When it comes to saying good-bye
That a simple word that I just cannot say
There can be no way
There can be no way
This can have a happy ending
No, no
So we just go on
Hurting and pretending
Convincing ourselves to give it just one more try

Because I guess neither one of us
Neither one of us wants to be the first to say
Neither one of us wants to be the first to say
Neither one of us wants to be the first to say
Farewell my love
Goodbye

50. Change in a democracy takes time
People have been force fed a lot of bull**** by Hollywood and TV and the like and think that if something doesn't happen overnight, then its time to run to the hills and await the coming revolution, that never comes.

We forget, it took a decade to end the Vietnam War, in the face of strong antiwar sentiment and large protests. It took years of activity and agitation before the Progressives at the beginning of the 20th Century took over and could make some changes. Women agitated how long for the vote? Abolitionists fought slavery for how long? AA's struggled for civil rights how long? Any fight worth fighting is a fight worthy of a long struggle. We should remember this.
