State Employee Refuses to Lower Flags for Helms. Retires Instead!!!
:applause:

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A longtime North Carolina state employee has chosen to retire instead of lowering flags to honor former Republican Sen. Jesse Helms.

U.S. and state flags have been flying at half-staff since Gov. Mike Easley ordered them lowered after Helms died Friday.

L.F. Eason III told his staff at the state Standards Laboratory to ignore the directive. The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that Eason sent workers an e-mail saying he didn't think it was appropriate to lower the flags because of Helms' "doctrine of negativity, hate, and prejudice."

Eason is calling it quits after 29 years with the Department of Agriculture after superiors told the 51-year-old to lower the flags or retire immediately.

Flags at the lab have since been lowered to half-staff.

I salute you Mr. Eason!:patriot: :yourock:

2. What the hell?
Is that why OUR flags are lowered in Kansas? Do they do this nationwide for every Senator?

5. Yes.
Should I fly my flag at half-staff today?

When to half-staff the flag

* May 15 — Peace Officers Memorial Day: half-staff from sunrise to sunset
* Last Monday in May — Memorial Day: the flag should be displayed at half-staff until noon
* September 11 — Patriot Day: half-staff from sunrise to sunset
* December 7 — National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day: half-staff from sunrise to sunset
* Upon reliable information that a past or present President, Vice-President, Chief Justice, or Speaker of the House has died
* Upon proclamation from the President (see next) or your state's governor (see after)

8. Doesn't say anything about a Senator.
So did the President declare it this time, or did our governor?

In either case, there oughta be some outrage, at least in the north, for lowering our flags for a racist southern Senator.

9. You're right, I gave a quick look and thought it included Senators.
Your mayor or Governor must have called for it.

7. It's only supposed to be done in the Senators home state.
The Flags closed up in California.

6. Thank you Mr. Eason!!!
I understand that he was a senator and despite how fucked up he was he'll get a memorial anyway, but lowering flags for him is ridiculous. If ever a senator didn't deserve to be remembered in a positive light it's Jesse Helms.

But at least there is one person willing to stand up for their morals. Thank you again Mr. Eason. I feel a little better today knowing people like you are still out there.
