What, exactly, do those Dems who voted for FISA hope to get/accomplish?

I guess it depends on each particular senator. Money from telecoms? Being able to (falsely) boast to their constituents that they're fighting "the war on terror"? Some way to combat Republican accusations that they're "soft" on the "war on terror"?

Anyone have any insight on the motives for particular senators?

I am saddened and disillusioned with the party I love right now.

I can't even get mad yet. Just sort of stunned that they would do this.

Because there wasn't anything in the original FISA court setup that would prevent spying on terrorists. The only reason anyone would want to avoid FISA is to break the law. The reasons given today have ZERO to do with fighting terrorism. So anyone who believes ANY excuse given by ANYONE who voted for the change today is a sucker. You can be convinced to give up our other protections under the Bill of Rights as well as long as your politician asks.
