U.S. Shifts Carrier to Afghan Theater; Taliban Activity Unabated

200 Taliban militants have surrounded a police station in Pakistan's Northwest Frontier Province and the Canadian Defense Minister is attributing the recent upsurge in Afghan violence to the lucrative "end of the annual poppy harvest." As if we didn't already know, the Taliban is operating freely on the Pakistani side, and they're awash in violence-fueling drug money on the Afghan side.

This comes a day after the U.S. announced that it was diverting the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Lincoln from the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman--where it could better support operations in the Afghan theater.

It probably won't be long now before McCain supporters in and out of government begin saying that they've always preferred that we shift forces from Iraq to Afghanistan.
