Bill to Hold Contractors Responsible for Fraud Needs Our Help
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 09:06 AM by clear eye
A Grassley/Leahy Bill to allow prosecution of fraud by contractors during any major use of military force, declared or undeclared, authorized or not, in the same way fraud is open to prosecution during a declared war, has been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee and is awaiting action by the main body of the Senate. <http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s110-2892> Unless more interest is shown by the general public it is likely to remain where it is. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid needs to hear some urgency by the public to move on this, and letters must be written to editors of local newspapers in support. Seems to me, removing a lot of the money incentive for staying in the war would go a long way toward further erosion of the resistance toward troop withdrawal. The economic benefits are obvious. The House passed something similar, The War Profiteering Prevention Act - H.R. 400, last year, and continued with a series of related measures this year: <http://speaker.gov/issues?id=0066>.
Even if most of these measures are largely unenforceable under the Bush Administration, it is a very good thing to have them in place for when he goes.
