This sort of reminds me of Clinton signing the NAFTA legislation
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 09:05 AM by kentuck
There was a time during the Clinton Administration when he was signing all the favorite Republican legislation, including Welfare Reform without a safety net, GATT, NAFTA, Telecommunications Bill, etc, that caused many people to question their Party credentials. How could our President fold on such important and traditonal issues of importance to working people and the base of the Democratic Party? It was very disturbing to a lot of loyal Democrats. And many Democrats had a lot of questions about what happened at Waco, also.

These last couple of weeks with our Democratic nominee, Barack Obama, harkens back to those days during the Clinton years. He is making many in his Party question their committment and whether or not they want to stay in the Party.

I left the Party for a couple of years and became an Independent because of the actions of Bill Clinton. However, the times today are different. As much as I dislike the actions of a lot of our chicken-hearted Democrats, I cannot desert the Party at this time. However, my support is not written in stone. I will see this election thru but I will not support a Republican or a Republican-lite for anything. That is my line in the sand.

1. Barack Obama just happens to be a big NAFTA supporter too
What a coincidence, eh? Obama's "anti-DLC" candidacy is just another third-way sellout.

2. I agree
and it applies to Nancy Pelosi's disappointing actions as well.

5. For the reasons mentioned above...
and others. Yes, we had a good economy during the '90 but it was fleeting. Nothing of permanent significance was passed or created. It all went away like a puff of smoke in less than a year...

6. It didn't just go away, it was driven away by Republican policy.
The most important thing Bush* had to do when he first came to office was to erase everything Clinton. He did with the help of Democrats in Congress. It began with the "tax cuts" put into place very early in 2001. The main part of Clinton's first Budget (which every single Republican said would destroy the economy) was to put higher taxes upon the wealthy and lower them on middle class. After Clinton's Budget was passed with a tie breaking vote by Al Gore America went on to experience the greatest economic expansion in history. As soon as Bush* and the Republicans reversed it America experienced the greatest economic turn around in history and that all happened months before 9-11.

7. Conservative Democrats blocked a more progressive agenda in the 90s.
And, now, some of them are working with Obama!

4. YES! His political bobbing and weaving is very much like Bill Clinton's -
and the speeches about 'Hope,' etc.
