GOP looks to new NRSC chair for revival
from Politico.com:

The 2008 election outlook is so bleak for Senate Republicans that they’re already looking ahead to 2010, hoping they’ll fare better in a different political climate with a new chairman leading the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

The leading contenders for that job: Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and Norm Coleman of Minnesota — assuming, of course, that both survive their own reelection challenges this year

Although there’s talk that Sen. Charles Schumer of New York will stay on for another cycle atop the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, NRSC Chairman John Ensign of Nevada — who is stuck with the impossible task of defending 23 Republican seats to the Democrats’ 12 in a strong political climate for Democrats — says he’s “one and done” after November.

When it comes time to replace him, Republicans will face a choice: Do they want a traditional Texas conservative who can load up on Lone Star money or a moderate Midwesterner who can broaden the party’s base with national fundraising appeal?

The sun'll come out tomorrow...
