Senator Richard Durbin May Back New Offshore Oil Drilling

Top Democrat may back new offshore drilling:
July 9, 2008

Reuters) - A top U.S. Democratic senator said in a newspaper interview published Wednesday that he would consider supporting opening up new areas for offshore oil and gas drilling.

"I'm open to drilling and responsible production," Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin told The Wall Street Journal, adding that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid could also support the move.

However, Durbin said his support for opening new areas to drilling was contingent on setting requirements that oil and gas companies begin production within a specified time frame on acreage they have leased from the government.

4. Why does he even feel it necessary to respond to this?
It's amazing how many Dems just fall right in line behind these GOP-framed "issues".

Don't Dems have any issues that THEY want to push? How about forcing some Republican politicians to take a stand on PROGRESSIVE issues?

5. How's about drilling offshore Chicago, Sen. Durbin?
Say, Lake Michigan, about half a mile from Lakeshore Drive?

6. Nobody seems to get it!
They have to shift to the Reich on all the issues that might be used against them during the next election. Its smart policy, eliminate all the Reich talking point issues and voilà, automatic win come November. Not to worry after the election they can then switch back to their old position and everything will be hunky-dory again.:sarcasm:
