Man sues his church for $2.5 million because the Spirit moved him & nobody caught him
KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- A Sevier County man is suing his former church in South Knoxville, after he claims he was overcome by the spirit, fell backward and hit his head.

Matt Lincoln, 57, says pastors at Lakewind Church should have made sure someone caught him.

His attorney is asking for $2.5 million to cover medical bills, lost income and pain and suffering...

"I just closed my eyes. I was just asking God, I wanted to have a real experience. It's like you faint. It's almost like you pass out," Lincoln says. He also says that wasn't unusual. "I've fallen out in the spirit before, but have always been caught," Lincoln says. "I always trusted that the catchers would be there because they always were."

5. i have a family member who
is a christian. she said they have people behind you to catch you if you fall. she also said that people sometimes "fake it". they look behind them to make sure someone is there before they fall.

10. If he fell backward when no one was there to catch him...
It must have been god's will, not the church's fault.

17. I'm torn here
Part of me wants the man to win, because this is undoubtedly some batshit crazy fundy church. The other half of me does not wish to see stupid prevail.

19. court involvement with the ministry of this church would be unconstitutional
or so say the church's lawyers.

snip from article:

Lawyers for the church didn't want to go on camera, but say in an answer to the lawsuit that Lincoln was observed that night by other congregants to be on the floor laughing, that he failed to look out for his own safety and that court involvement with the ministry of this church would be unconstitutional.

----------------

I'm surprised they didn't say the man didn't have sufficient faith, otherwise he might not have been hurt.

I wonder if laying on of hands was involved with this (sometimes those hands push awfully hard) or if the guy just fell on his own accord. Some people really fling themselves around.

21. Well
The Church should have prepared for people who fall because the Spirit comes in them
Then again maybe the Spirit wanted him to crack his skull
Or wait maybe it was planned by his exwife who works in the church
Real head case--
I mean really hard case

23. God to Matt Lincoln: Screw You.
Seriously, what are you supposed to take from the fact that he was supposedly moved by the holy spirit and hit his head?
