5. Can you name the masts and sails?
Can you explain why the foresail and mainsail aren't set on the lead ship? Why aren't all the staysails set? Or are they? How would you describe the course they're taking in relation to the wind? Is there something wrong with that inference?

Inquiring minds want to know. :silly:

8. The apparent wind filling the flag indicates they are sailing dead downwind
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 07:47 PM by BrotherBuzz
Slow going, sailing dead downwind and the forward sail are ghosted and would be flogging around making a racket. Perhaps the sailers want some peace and quiet while they are having their afternoon tea.

9. The apparent wind indicated by the flag wouldn't fill the staysails - not that way.
But it's art ... and the artist can be forgiven for not being a sailor.

Just remembering summer cruises (1961&62) on the Eagle - http://wapedia.mobi/en/USCGC_Eagle_%28WIX-327%29

At the time, we were required to know the name of EVERYTHING on board her (sails, lines, pins, etc.) ... every belaying pin ... blindfolded.
