Economic Report: This Winter's Heating Costs Are Already Heating Up

http://www.laborradio.org/node/8953

Economic Report:

If you thought last winter's heating costs were bad, you might want to start saving for this coming winter. The National Energy Assistance Directors Association is projecting home heating costs to be around $2,600 this winter. That's more than a $600 increase over last winter. The cost of the average fuel delivery will rise from $500 to $850. The previous winter already saw more households seeking energy assistance at the highest rate since 1992.

1. I use 90% wood heat here, plus the electric bathrrom heater.
I have been gathering wood like a squirrel gathers nuts. Just about ready, need another half cord or so.

2. hey, that sounds like us also
We have the wood in for this year, just need to split it now. How many cords do you use a year? We generally use 6 or so. This year will try not to use the electric heater in the bathroom too much either with the prices they are predicting. And youngest is off to college so closing off the upstairs when it gets really cold, that should help keep the downstairs warmer too. I feel like a pioneer! Pretty soon we will be huddling in front of the woodburner.

5. two cords
That's not a woodpile, it only a wood mini stack here in Ohio! I am coming to Arizona in a couple of weeks. My sister-in-law keeps emailing me the temperature there...113, 110 etc. Maybe I can store some up and bring it back with me!

6. We were thinking about getting a pellet stove. Just not sure what the price of pellets might be
since the price of pellets will most likely rise also. Same thing with wood if you can find any of the dry stuff left.
