Did Rove just double down? Did he raise the stakes? Why would he leave the country?

As far as I can tell the only reasons he would leave the country are...

1. To make the HJC look powerless, or

2. To avoid being taken in by the Sargent at Arms of the House.

If 2 is correct, then he basically fled the country to avoid arrest. I think that's the reason he is being given another deadline of 5 days, Rove knows the noose is tightening, he's calling Conyers out. If HJC does what its supposed to Rove does a perp walk.

I am cautiously optimistic that this may be a real deadline...and then if Rove remains AWOL, I look forward to the shit hitting the fan.

23. The puke on the committee said it was a "long scheduled trip"
Yet, no one knows where he went?

Maybe this has something to do with Pelosi changing her tune on Impeachment.

He's perfectly innocent and he just decided to leave the country because, well, that's what innocent people who have nothing to hide do when the choice is between testifying or going to jail.

19. thanks to homeland security, SOMEONE knows where he is
A quick subpoena of records would reveal his destination unless he went by private transportation.

Someone in my neighborhood said that he is a danger to Bush, and we ought to put him in protective custody.

and don't think he feared being taken in by the Sergeant at Arms. He believes the rules don't apply to him, and so far, the dems have done nothing to disabuse him of that view.

Conyers is a good guy, but the HJC is powerless. Nothing will happen to Rove. Nothing at all.
