The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved legislation on Tuesday allowing the Justice Department to sue OPEC members for limiting oil supplies and working together to set crude prices, but the White House threatened to veto the measure.

Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leader, has made a refrain in recent weeks of saying, "We cannot drill our way out of this problem." But he opened his news conference on Tuesday with a different approach: "Let’s begin the discussion here by saying, Democrats support domestic production."

He also hinted at a potential element of compromise legislation: that any oil produced from wider access to federal lands off shore be reserved for domestic use and barred from export. At the same time, he noted that Senator John McCain of Arizona, the Republican presidential candidate, had opposed similar restrictions in the past.

Sounds like a plan to me.

Until Ahab the Saudi realizes that this opens the door for them to halve production while making the same amount of money as prices more than double.

Yes. A simple plan.

1. It looks like OPEC has us by the balls...
Of course it might just be Big Oil.

If we could put a man on the moon in 1969, we sure as hell can solve this energy crisis.

We just need an intelligent leader as President and a congress who is in touch with the electorate and not controlled by the big corporations.

I think we may have the President we need. The question is the Congress.

By the way, I like the idea that any new oil produced from new off shore leases be reserved for domestic use. We also need tax incentives for alternate energy development. Perhaps we could launch a JFK like plan for going to the moon but say we will be energy independent in 10 years.

We can do this people! It's not rocket science. We have the technology! As voters we need to insist that the people we elect DO SOMETHING. Hot air from politicians just will not solve our problems. It merely stinks and drifts away in the breeze without any feasible way of harnessing it.
