Roving Rove reportedly in Stockholm
Edited on Fri Jul-11-08 06:25 AM by Dover

July 10, 2008

So what was more important for Karl Rove than Congress?
Karl Rove ignored a a subpoena to testify before Congress, spurring the threat of contempt proceedings.

So what's he doing instead this week?

Well, you can read the Stockholm News to find out he lunched with Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeld's allies and gave them campaign advice. http://www.stockholmnews.com/

Or you can peruse Aftonbladet for a photo and the title "superstrategen." Think he likes the ring of that? http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article2865227.ab

1. I doubt the Swedes will buy what he's selling.
IMO they're much more sophisticated than that.

9. I'm guessing the PM invited him there in an advisory capacity.
Those in power or wanting it find his techniques very effective it seems.
If that isn't a sad commentary on the state of global leadership's mindset, what is?

7. I think you owe an apology to Miss Piggy
She's a fine Muppet. I don't think she'd have anything to do with Rove. ;)

5. What moron would want to be associated with Rove at this point?
The man is (or should be) political poison in a progressive country.

I know they have newspapers, radio, television and Internet. WTF? More self-deluded wingers?

13. I've read it in a number of places
but after checking with a search engine, I'm not sure I want to vouch for those sources

Maybe it's true, but maybe it's not. I didn't like the sources I found right away, although I'm certain none of the sources I found were where I read that info initially.

10. Well, this is interesting.....
About Prime Minister Reinfeldt who Rove is advising:

As one of Europe's new conservative leaders, Reinfeldt is seen as an important ally of the United States. His party is a member of the conservative International Democrat Union, together with the Republican Party in the United States and the British Conservative Party, even though being more liberal than these. During the 2000 U.S. presidential election, Reinfeldt visited the United States to support the campaign of George W. Bush.<26> Prior to the 2004 US presidential election, Reinfeldt again expressed his support for Bush. In an interview with the newspaper Stockholm City on March 8, 2004, Reinfeldt said that he preferred Bush over the Democratic Party contender John Kerry, and in a poll conducted by the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet in April 2004, Reinfeldt like a large majority of his party favoured Bush over Kerry.<27> Despite this, he has compared his government's actions and policies to that of Bill Clinton's administration, and supports Barack Obama in the 2008 United States presidential election.<28>

The Moderate Party has a strong pro-European Union policy stance, and also supports Sweden joining NATO. Reinfeldt has also opposed a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, saying that the democratically elected Iraqi government should have the last say on the issue.

Reinfeldt visited Washington, D.C. on May 15, 2007, meeting with President Bush. His trip also included meetings with others, including United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.<29><30> This is his first visit to the United States since becoming prime minister in 2006.<31> Bush and Reinfeldt mostly discussed climate change and free trade, focusing on the Doha Round.<32><33><34> Young Americans for Freedom, an influential conservative organization, issued a press release ahead of Reinfeldt's visit, saying he has "done a tremendous job at modernizing his party’s message and finding electoral success in what most American conservatives would perceive as a staunch left-wing country."

file a complaint with the World Criminal Court at the Hague. Sure it might create an international incident but since the USA doesn't have any available military to threaten Sweden or the Netherlands with, I think we could yawn about it.
