Michele Bachmann Calls Planned Parenthood "The Wal-Mart of Big Abortion"
Edited on Fri Jul-11-08 07:22 AM by marmar
from the DumpMicheleBachmann blog:

The anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List sends this over the Christian News Wire:

In her testimony on the House floor, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) referenced a recent Wall Street Journal investigation highlighting Planned Parenthood's recent appeal to the affluent in her congressional district. The article cited opening of "express centers in wealthy Minnesota suburbs" with the purposes of appealing to women who are "already doing their grocery shopping, picking up their Starbucks, living their daily lives."

"They are big business. They are the Wal-Mart of big abortion," said Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN). "They are the big box retailer. It's time to end their tax exempt status. It's a fraud. It is time to stop the public financing of Planned Parenthood -- it is the right thing to do."

This is Bachmann's bio on the Susan B. Anthony List:

Michele Bachmann was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006 to serve Minnesota's 6th Congressional District. Congresswoman Bachmann is a former State Senator where she served as a leading advocate on pro-life issues. Michele was the chief Senate sponsor of Minnesota's "Terri Schiavo" legislation to protect the disabled and the elderly. She also regularly spoke on the floor of the Minnesota Senate in favor of pro-life legislation like the Women's Right to Know and Fetal Pain bills.

In college, after watching Francis Schaffer's "How Shall We Then Live," Michele decided to take up the cause for Life. She began praying outside abortion clinics and served as a sidewalk counselor to young women considering abortions. Her passion for women and the unborn has only increased since then, and she is now a well-respected pro-life advocate.

Michele is married to Marcus Bachmann, and they have five children. Michele and Marcus have also served as foster parents to over 23 at-risk teen women.

3. Who elects these people?
Minnesotans, in this case!

The abortion issue is very strong in Minnesota.

8. No, it's not...
Bachmann is just lucky enough to be in a very conservative, affluent suburb. The dems also ran a pretty weak opponent in Wetterling (who is a true child advocate) last time. She's going to lose her seat this time, though if all works out.

13. I used to love that term "sidewalk counselor"
By that logic, drug dealers could call themselves "sidewalk pharmacists".

15. Nice one!
Once I saw how these harpies terrorized those poor women, I volunteered to be an escort.
And it was always the poor women, the ones who had to go to a clinic which didn't afford them the privacy and respect all women deserve.
Most of them weren't even there for abortions but to get birth control to PREVENT abortions.

Still makes my blood boil...

16. In NOLA, the harpies terrorized white and black women differently
quelle surprise. One of my fellow clinic defenders noticed this. About 80% of this particular clinic's patients were African American. The harpies would only make a halfhearted attempt to stop them from entering, then really lace into them on the way out.

When a white woman did show up, everything changed. All of a sudden the harpies whipped out their Super Harpy Inhalers and did everything they could to stop the white woman from going in. They did not bother so much trying to shame the white women on the way out.

Postscript: Many of us were counterdemoing a David Dukkke rally (Rush is right; we really are all the same people :sarcasm: ) when who should turn up, driving around looking for parking, but the lead harpy himself!!

17. I believe you.
I wish I didn't, but after living in the south for only five years, I believe you.

In Pennsylvania one of them got their claws on a patient list and the fuckers had it printed on their signs.
They were eventually ordered to surrender the signs but the damage was done.

9. This is Outrageous and Threatening!
This is the kind of practiced Republican jargon which pretends to be glib and snarky but which is actually very threatening and which actively encourages hate-attacks on clinics and abortion rights supporters. It reminds me of the outrageous and vulgar thing I remember many years ago from that pricky old Republican bastard who died a few years ago, Henry Hyde, who equated women who get abortions, with "bug exterminators"; it also plays into and encourages a violent reaction with its use of the phony slander about "privileged, self-absorbed women who get abortions as casually as other people get a hair cut," etc. This is very threatening hate speech, it encourages these vicious, hysterical anti-feminsts who have all the time in the world to stew on these things, and it does not get denounced as it should, making it unacceptable in society.

This is also why Democrats should never, never appease these people with "no one likes abortion," "abortion should be made rare," etc., sloganeering, always thought up by males. This has to be fought, and realized as the outrageously irresponsible hate-mongering and incitement to violence that it is. This is sickening. Notice also how common their mind-ripping thought-control tactics are, as with the use of a historical feminist's name, but to advance their own, corporate, anti-feminist dismantling of everything feminism has achieved, as if even the feminists aren't feminists in this "new" world-construct. This is the new extreme that archconservative/corporate power, disguised by "cutesy" slogans, has reached; it should be treated as a hate crime.

14. Quick, someone tell her there's a gay person around!
Then she'll go hide...

http://www.eleventh-avenue-south.com/archives/000491.html

"The state Senate on Thursday rejected an effort to force a floor vote on a constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage as thousands of ban opponents rallied outside the Capitol. Sen. Michele Bachmann, the Stillwater Republican who's led the push for the ban, said Senate Democrats have denied her repeated efforts to get the bill heard. Senate leaders countered that Bachmann, a candidate for the U.S. House, is flouting Senate rules to advance her own political career. At the same time, about 2,500 gays, lesbians and their supporters attended a rally on the Capitol grounds just a few hundred yards away, organized by OutFront Minnesota."

After the move didn't pan out, Michele took to hiding in the bushes to watch the queers rally. A reader tip:

"I know you're no fan of Michele. And therefore, you might be interested in a few pics I took at the JustFair rally on Thursday of her hiding behind the bushes watching us from afar before I scared her away with the camera."
