Freepers discuss a 'NEW' United States in their image.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2043839/posts

They post some drivel from townhall then discuss it. Some excerpts.

If Obama gets in, securing total power for dems ad infinitum will be the first order of business. In a matter of months, the US will be unrecognizable. Gone.

It's time to man up, stay and fight, not this bedwetting “new America”, nor secession. Fight like men or STFU.

IMHO, one of the problems with our “Republic” was that we give the franchise (voting rights) away too easily. All you have to be is above 18 and have a pulse. In some places, they don’t even bother checking citizenship eligibility. There are a lot of idiots out there—when you combine them with liberals (some of whom are real moonbats), its nearly a majority.

I think Heinlein had the right idea in “Starship Troopers”: only give the franchise to those who have served in the armed forces. If you do that, then (at least) you guarantee that the people making the calls care enough about their country to put their lives on the line for it. I’d sleep a lot better at night if I knew that were the case. Of course, its possible the Vets could start voting themselves big benefits, but I don’t see that happening. Even those who join as liberals may leave as conservatives after experiencing military discipline and gritty reality.

Other variations on the theme are: only give the franchise to people who actually pay taxes. I like this too, though not nearly as much.

So so much more. Have fun with this if you are so inclined. Scary people, and really into movies and tv.

"only give the franchise to those who have served in the armed forces. If you do that, then (at least) you guarantee that the people making the calls care enough about their country to put their lives on the line for it."

I guess Mr. Mensa hasn't figured out that if only those who served in the military could vote, no one on FR would be able to. But then most of them believe that being part of the Fightin' Keyboard 101st (permanently stationed in mom's basement) qualifies as active duty.

When and where did you serve?
I live in Norfolk, Va. I'm not military but I know what is means. My dad was a civilian contractor on the Norfolk Naval Base for 50 years. While we weren't REALLY military, weren't we? .....our lives were tied together with those of the sailors and marines

Dear MFingly incredibly stupid freepers...the majority of US forces are NOT rightwing.

Indies & Libs, MFers. That's who makes up the majority of US forces.

And that, like it or not, MFers, is a FACT.

So yeah, let's give them the "franchise".

21. Aside from which, the idiots clearly never read the book
Citizenship went to those who completed a period of national service. The military was only one of a great many options for fulfilling that service: one could also serve as a teacher, doctor, forest ranger, fire fighter, road maintenance worker, litter picker-upper, cog in a government-run factory, medical test subject and no doubt a great many other options. Until the aliens attacked, military service was for the losers with absolutely no other skills to offer the country. Also, while citizenship did allow a person to vote and run for office, it also came with a great many perqs such as free medical care, steep discounts if you decide to get a college education and, no doubt, a whole package of other socialist nanny-state benefits.

But of course, such things do not fit with the freeper agenda. :eyes:

Thanks for that nice little summary. I'm sure if the Freepers had had time to read more than the back flap on the book cover they would have realized this as well.

If Obama gets in, securing total power for dems ad infinitum will be the first order of business. (From the OP)

Well, at least it looks as if the brush is being broadened. Our Free-ky friends biggest fear used to be that when Obama came in, all us colored folks would get all the perks and power. Guess that one was too much for even them to take for too long...

23. Heinlen had some interesting ideas
Stranger In A Strange Land was one of my favorites.

But to be honest, I rather like the idea of citizenship based on completing a period of national service. Such a requirement would certainly steal the thunder of the Freeper idiots. While I have issues with training to kill people, I would have no problem serving on a fire crew with the Forestry Department or something like that.

22. I always think of these quotes when reading anything from FR. -

As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Nature abhors a moron.

Every decent man is ashamed of the government he lives under.

In this world of sin and sorrow there is always something to be thankful for. As for me, I rejoice that I am not a Republican.

Democracy is the art of running the circus from the monkey cage.

H. L. Mencken

Edited on Sat Jul-12-08 12:26 AM by Marr
Particularly the economy, since I've seen right-wingers just flat out deny just about every other problem even exists.

Do they have some maze that works back to Clinton, or do they still blame everything on 9-11?

I'd also be curious to know whether any of them is concerned about the imperial presidency police state they've cheered for, now that it may be passed to a Democrat. Too much power?

As the Social Studies teacher I reminded him that Our founding fathers were exhausted of military authority.... AND, denying people a voice and liberty, that isn't democracy..... it's autocracy
