Enough politics for the moment? Get outside (or stay in) and take a picture!

It's time for the monthly contest in the photography group. The theme this month is Light and Darkness.

Could be metaphorical


Submission and comment threads will be opened Friday the 18th and closed at 10pm PST on Wednesday the 23rd. Photos submitted will be posted in a preliminary contest in GD with a finals thread to follow.



BASIC CONTEST/CHALLENGE RULES:

Only one entry per person. You need to post your entry in the submission thread started by the Host of a contest/challenge. Please be sure to include a "Title" for your photograph in the Subject line of your post. (This title will be used for the winner's thread only, and not be part of the polling threads.) The submission thread is for photo entries only, no comments. The Host will usually start a separate thread just for comments.

Please try to keep your photograph entry no larger than 800 pixels in its longest dimension and under 200K in file size. If you need help posting a photograph or with image sizing, just ask.

The winner of the contest agrees to host the next month's contest (or recruit someone else to host the contest), and pick the next month's theme. Typically the winners have not been able to enter a photograph in the next contest. Be sure to read the following before you enter a photograph. (NOTE: The terms in this paragraph do not apply to Seasonal Contests.)

CONTEST LICENSE:

An entrant to this contest, by submitting a photograph, is giving permission for that photograph to be copied to Demopedia and/or to a linked Gallery that will display the photographs entered for this contest for the purpose of publicizing future contests and/or commemorating current and past contests. The entrant retains all other rights to the photograph being submitted. Neither Demopedia and/or a linked Gallery may use any photograph submitted for any purpose other than to display the photograph being submitted by the entrant, and neither gains any real or implied ownership rights to the photograph.

An entrant can disclaim this Contest License and retain all rights to the photograph. If an entrant wishes to disclaim the Contest License they must include the following statement in the post containing their photograph; "I disclaim the Contest License, and reserve all rights to my photograph" Any photograph submitted by an entrant with this disclaimer statement will not be copied and displayed in Demopedia and/or any linked Gallery.

5. To post a pic:

First, it must be online, on the web somewhere, so that you can provide a link in the same way that links are provided to articles or news or youtube videos.

When that link ends with a graphic file extension, like .jpg or .gif or .tif or .png, and so on, it will then be automatically displayed in the DU forums.

When you see a photo or other image in a post, right-click and select "properties." Among other info, it will show the whole URL link that the photo originated from. Give it a try by making a test post, hit preview, and see if it works. Unfortunately posting (but not reading) in the photo forum requires a donor star, but if you have trouble you can ask for further help in this thread or in the lounge.

I have wanted to submit a coupe of times, but it was always after the contest made its way into this forum. Unfortunately, I don't have one worthy enough for the current theme... but will happily give this my recommendation.
