I'm not too swift in the ways of oil speculation and the Dow Jones numbers game, so how exactly does Iran firing off a few Roman candles make gas prices go up?

I rely on smart people to explain things to me all the time, and thanks in advance.

1. Every time Iran fires a rocket, demand for oil rises..
After all, we have been told by experts that the high oil prices are due to rising demand, not speculation. :sarcasm:

2. Speculators are betting on another war
and if the military ever caves to Stupid or the Likud crazies manage to convince the IDF it's a good idea to bomb Iran, then they'll be in fat city as the futures they snapped up and drove to nearly $150/bbl bring at least $200 and possibly $500, depending on how fast it all spins out of control.

However, if the military holds fast against Cheney, Lieberman, Stupid, and AIPAC and the IDF holds fast against their own crazies, then these speculators are going to take a major bath next January as the bottom falls out of the spot market futures.

Just don't expect spot market futures to get much cheaper until the GOP has been routed.

6. I'm no expert, but that looks photoshopped.
Only foreign terrorist nations photoshop the truth.

7. Oil Spec is prolly the one game 'they' have worked around just like the baby bear's bed...
juuuusst right (for they optioned with a stock portfolio brimming with oil, defense stocks & futures of course). A sand flea bites a camel beside a far away oasis, and a flow chart flutters near the DOW on Wall Street, etc, wait!

I just heard the pop of a champagne cork. Hm, and here I thought sand fleas preferred cognac
