TV so have no idea what they are doing. CNN has been on it for the last half hour or so or at least as long as I had it on. MSNBC is in their weekend crime show schedule so don't expect much from them.

2. You should ask the mods to delete this for you -
all you're doing is giving an outlet to the twits who think trashing a dead guy is oh so funny.

You don't have to like him and I realise you weren't saying anything about him directly, but there are, unfortunately, a lot of people on DU who don't know when to quit.

3. Tony's death is not unexpected. He had a recurrance of colon cancer
and it had metastized. Tim's death was out of the blue, and he died at work. So I think it was the shock factor in Tim's case.

8. No. People mocked the media coverage of Russert.
Nobody was happy when he died, I certainly wasn't and I'm still not but I did resent that the way he was lionized by the media. They acted as if Elvis died, it was ridiculous!

10. Yes, the media coverage was infuriating.
It demonstrated how we no longer, for the most part, have real news on TV, and that it was (is) all about THEM.

15. Yes, but I think the overdone reaction to Russert was because it was such a shock

5. I don't see it.
Well... I suppose Russert was *slightly* more subtle in his promotion of White House talking points than Snow, the White House Press Secretary was. Perhaps.

7. Russert was a cheerleader for Iraq, but that's where the similarities stop
Russert was a Dem who worked for Cuomo among others. Russert was fair and evenhanded in his probing interviews.

Snow, on the other hand, is nothing more than a dark hearted water carrier for the Right.

9. I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on Russert's evenhandedness.
Edited on Sat Jul-12-08 12:09 PM by Marr
I always found him to be shamefully biased in his interviews.

11. Oh there was a Corporate bias
But not a left or right one.

He knew hew paid him.

Don't get me wrong, he was human and had flaws.

But I wouldn't equate them to Tony "Just a Number" Snow.

Having said that - Cancer is NO way to go. No one should have to go out like that.

13. I'd agree with you on that. His bias was a corporate one, not really
a Republican one.

14. Let it go man...
I have no intention of lauding or lionizing Mr. Snow. That said, dying from cancer is a hell of a way to go, and there is a wife and children tonight who's husband and father will never be coming home again. Forgive me if I'm not yet so callous as to rejoice in their personal tragedy. The man is dead, if there is a God, let him answer to Him, if not, we need not rejoice, for we will all join him in oblivion soon enough.

17. Like Russerts demise, it's a matter of relative indifference to me.
I neither mourn or exult in their lives or deaths.
