Did you know you can't take photographs inside of a Starbucks?

Seriously, try it. Next time you're at a Starbucks, whip out your camera and click off a couple shots. They will tell you to stop or ask you to leave or both. I was shocked when it happened to me.

1. Most businesses I've seen respond like that. It's hardly a Starbucks thing. (nt)

5. I was outside of a large bank building on a public sidewalk in a metro area.
When a security guard told me I couldn't take pictures there. I told her to "fuck off".

12. I'm sure some higher up had told her.
Not to let people take pictures on the property or of the building. I even saw her dial up somebody on her phone. They must have told her to let it rest. I was taking pictures of John McCain's motorcade and there were a ton of cops around anyway and they all saw me taking pictures, they didn't make an issue out of it.

3. I'd try it, but it would require actually going into a Starbucks...
....eeeeewwww!

I prefer the few independently owned coffee houses available, that haven't been driven out of business by Starbucks.

:hi:

9. LOL! You jest, but there is truth in that.
Their soul is the brand, if I "take" the brand without their permission, then they view it as stealing.

11. I know you can't do it in our Town. We don't have a Starbucks.
They applied for a permit and we jammed the Town Hall.

Turned them away.

15. Why all the hate on Starbucks?
My daughter manages one. Good job, good benefits.

If you don't like it, don't go there. Sheesh.

Hell, I don't even drink coffee.

17. Try taking a picture of a Chinese herb shop
When I was in Hong Kong, I noticed some gigantic ginseng roots in frames at the top of an herb shop. The biggest ginseng roots I've ever seen and each one was in its own case that looked like a picture frame. I guess they were for sale. I wasn't even inside the shop, I was standing outside in front of the shop, and lifted my camera up to take a picture of them. A man ran out yelling at me not to take the picture. Apparently they believe if you take a picture of those, it steals away the potency of them, or scares away the spirits in them or something. I thought this was pretty weird.

18. I saw a sign at a Burger King that said the same thing
I wonder if they still do birthday parties there and if they try and enforce it then.

It's happening everywhere and it's not about security. It's about avoiding a visual record of health, safety and labor law violations.
