So, there've been bad Presidents before
Nixon comes to mind, of course. Harding famously comes to mind.

But has any President prior to Bush Jr. done more to diminish our nation's prestige and respect on the world stage? I'm not the best student of history, but I can't think of anyone who's done more to damage our reputation abroad.

Your thoughts?

3. Good point
And, I'm sad to say, that he's so undeniably evil that I didn't even think to ask about him. I just took it for granted that he's the all time worst of the worst.

Reagan was no slouch at fucking things up internationally.
But, even that drooling idiot was less adept at pissing off most of the countries of the world.

6. And Reagan held the record for corruption -- most members of his cabinet indicted.
I don't know if any other administration has broken that record yet.

2. No President in history has been so openly corrupt and tyrannical.

He walks all over the Constitution on a daily basis and the oath of office means absolutely nothing to him.

4. It's not just that Bush is the worst
it's that he was the worst for the country at a critical point in history.

This 8-year delay in things like energy policy might be the delay that cripples us. Not only are we 8 years behind in starting to fix things, but we'll have to spend more years UNDOING what he did! Like all those coal-fired power plants in Texas that has made the air there worse than Los Angeles.

Let the record show that at a critical, pivotal time in our history, we fucked up.

9. I'm afraid that that's a good summation
More's the pity.

And you just know that every dollar spent undoing the damage they've done will be used to blame Democrats for needless government spending. And any catastrophes that result from Bush's tenure will no doubt be blamed on the Democrats who precede and succeed him.

Hell, that last part happens all the time already.

5. Bush is the worst, and not finished yet. Check this poll.
Edited on Sat Jul-12-08 01:52 PM by faygokid
A recent poll of 109 historians saw more than 60 percent already pass judgement: They named him worst ever, already.

And they are right. Check it out: http://hnn.us/articles/48916.html

. . . Asked to rank the presidency of George W. Bush in comparison to those of the other 41 American presidents, more than 61 percent of the historians concluded that the current presidency is the worst in the nation’s history. Another 35 percent of the historians surveyed rated the Bush presidency in the 31st to 41st category, while only four of the 109 respondents ranked the current presidency as even among the top two-thirds of American administrations. . .

7. I was watching the "Superfriends" on Boomerang last night...

after defeating an underseas tyrant Aquaman says: "It only takes one bad man to bring down a society". Had a good laugh over that. The difference between Nixon, and even more so for Harding, is that Bush/Cheney have had more opportunities to corrupt the government thanks to the fecklessness of Congress and the national media. Living in an era where it is easier to use the media to rally your "true believers" by appealing to their prejudices without being blatant about it has been perfected by Bush/Cheney. Nixon and Harding were too crude to master that.

8. I believe it has nothing to do with ideology or character. I think Bush is just incompetent.
Nixon was a crook, but he knew how to govern.
