I just went to my closest gas station, got a six-pack of beer, since I was pretty depressed, and a roll of paper towels, since my adorable puppy persists in wetting on the floor, but I could have used some gas, have to drive next week and am down to half a tank. I try to look after my great car, keep it full, but this is nuts. I live in NY. Anybody else having the same experience? I guess it's the same all over...

1. It's up to 4.29 a gallon here. When I filled up this afternoon, I had about a half
hour anti-Bush,anti-GOP, rant as I drove to pay exorbitant prices at the grocery store.

12. I absolutely know what you mean at the grocery store.
I used to pay about $40 a week for what I buy, food for us and the dog treats, LOL, but I rarely get out of there, these days, without paying about $90, for the same items, and I cook mostly from scratch. Very discouraging. :-(

And I looked at other local gas stations, the last time I went out, trying to decide where to go. It's anywhere from $4.11 to $4.39, so we're in the same boat... :-(

2. My boy who is 10 was asking about what kind of car to buy....
I told him you probably wont be able to afford to drive. Special occasions exempt of course. Or unless Daddy can buy one of those new VW 248 mpg cars coming out in 2009 or 2010. It is certainly going to be a different world...

14. I am so sorry. Things really have to change.
Your boy should be able to drive one day, as you and I did. I remember, ages ago, when I returned to school, and my cousin drove me. We stopped for gas on the NY State Thruway, which charged exorbitant prices, and she said that we'd have to go elsewhere. Gas, at that time, was 47-cents a gallon, way too much for us... :-(

15. Hello, my friend, and thank you.
We're in much the same area. I'm in Ballston Spa, these days, and it seems to go up every time I go out! But I rarely stop at Hess, since you have to pay before you pump, but I have no idea how much gas I will need. They say they'll give me change... :-(

17. I think the closer you get to the Hudson, the cheaper the gas
HESS here in Newburgh is 4.19 (near the Hudson). Hess in Middletown is 4.29

Mobil is 4.24 in Newburgh... $4.29 in Middletown...

Hess owns its refineries, so they generally have the cheapest gas.

7. $3.89 here in Van Buren, Arkansas!
The highest we've ever paid was $3.99 a couple weeks ago. I can't believe this! I never thought I'd see the day that I'd have an orgasm if I saw gasoline for $2.50 a gallon. But it looks like that day has arrived!!

Then again, it has always been a bit higher because of the transportation costs.

18. Thanks, my friend, and I'm tickled that you found my thread.
It was just one of those seat-of-the-pants things, like the others I told you about. I just lost it, looking at how much gas has gone up. I have to return to GF next week, but the price of gas is totally crazy. It was absolutely great talking to you and I am really feeling better today, thanks to you, my friend. Thank you. :hi:

30. My cousin, who I mentioned earlier, lives in Fairfield.
And I know that things are pretty expensive there. I've convinced her to vote for Chris Dodd, but not for Joe Lieberman, LOL. She has her own garden, a small one in the backyard, and since she has children, grows vegetables, really lovely ones, and the kids help, but the price of gas is just overwhelming... :-(

13. I don't look anymore...I'm serious.
I put $80 in. I can't bear to fill my shamemobile. $80 is as far as I can go.

I don't look at gas prices anymore. It's too depressing.

I try to drive...um, never.

I coast everywhere I go. I literally coast to stop lights and stop signs. Sometimes I'm driving 15 mph long
before the stop.

Not many people in this town like me anymore. Everyone else is in a hurry to get to nowhere. Meanwhile...I coast.

43. My closest childhood friend lives in SC, so where are you?
She is near Florence, but she is definitely one of us, grew up in Northern NY, like me. And she could sure use a roommate. And I get your drift. My friend went to hear Barak Obama speak, when he came to Florence, but she couldn't tell her work colleagues, since they wouldn't have approved. :(

But I get first dibs. ;) My grandmother lived in NC, and whenever I rented a car there, I loved getting a SC license plate, since they are the best... So you can have your choice, for a roommate, me or my BFF. BTW, we both have dogs, but very small and friendly ones.:D

I have to admit, it's nice driving by the gas station and not INto it for a change. I started using mass trans to get to work and for the first time, I get to go a weekend without pumping gas! Still have a half a tank whereas on previous Saturdays I would be riding on fumes to the nearest station!

drive all that much. But your prices seem to be better than here in NY, for the time being. You have my sympathies, my friend. I have a fairly large car, but it's still a four cylinder. My friend also drives a truck, got it to pull his camper, and is also close to work, but it's still a nightmare. x(
