1. Where are you?
I've only experienced a small earthquake in my lifetime, but it sure scared the piss out of me. I hope all is well.

10. Well we have on the radio so we'll know soon
and I'm watching the earthquake monitor website.

Spoke with hubby's folks across the city and everyone felt it - and they're all OK.
We all have power so it couldn't have been too bad. The epicentre may be offshore, Cuba or even Central America. We'll soon know.

23. Still not there
Local radio just mentioned an earthquake - no seismic measurement yet - Kingston, St Andrew, St Mary, Portland so far based on calls.

30. I'm sorry. I just assumed the USGS was reliable.
There is a "form" you can fill out to let them know.

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/dyfi/

Now that I think of it, maybe it wasn't "big" enough to get posted?

You should report it anyway.

32. They post over 2 and it was sure over 2
They're excellent where they have contacts but it will take them a while to get the info for our seismic people.

36. Yeah, I've heard that from many people.
The weather lures people here and the earthquakes scare them off.

It balances out in the end.

Where are you - Iowa? I really feel it for Iowans - some some photos of Cedar Rapids yesterday and it looks like NOLA after Katrina. Stay safe and watch the mosquitos.

9. I've been though minor and major earthquakes
The minor one was in NJ. It felt like a truck rumbling by.
The major one was in Seattle in 2001. It was terrifying. I was on the 43rd floor of an office building and we had to walk down to exit because the elevators were no longer working. For months afterwards, I was jumpy and would surveil my surroundings, thinking how I would exit if there was an earthquake.

You're right though - they do make you jumpy. I've never felt anything more than 5.5.

have a laugh - look what's in the neighbourhood just when we're planning to travel.

26. I still can't find any record of it on news yet
A 5.0 can be pretty strong depending on your soil and building codes.

I know Jamaica can get strong quakes such as the Port Royal earthquake.
Have you had any quakes lately in the last year?

28. No - we have very serious building codes given our past
history. Truth be told we're long overdue for a good shake up. We haven't even had a tremor for over a year.

Should be up soon.
