Bud Beer isn't even american anymore (at least not for long) |
|
http://kevxml2a.verizon.net/_1_2Z3UTO104RSMWF__vzn.isp/apnws/story.htm?kcfg=apart&sin=D91TKGSG1&qcat=finance&ran=19382&passqi=&feed=ap&top=1Anheuser Busch Cos. said early Monday it had agreed to a sweetened $52 billion takeover bid from Inbev, heading off what had promised to be a long and acrimonious fight for the maker of Budweiser and Bud Light beers. The deal would create the world's largest brewer and the fourth-largest consumer product company under the name of Anheuser-Busch InBev.

Maybe inBev can improve it. Drink Sam Adams... now that's a good beer and it's American.

It is in every way the Belgian equivalent of Bud.

is my personal choice nowadays. A good wheat beer. And yes, I know it's brewed in the states, not by some small group of monks living in a 500-year-old abbey somewhere.
I like Dos Equis too.
And because I'm from Maryland, a nice cold Natty Boh with my steamed crabs.

It's a great brew, their regular and their seasonals. BTW - if you ever get the chance, try their Spring Ale. Light flavor with a hint of lemon; excellent!

We have some really good beer up here. Hell, there's a brew pub a block and a half from my house that makes a variety of great beers. Then there's New Glarus Brewing Company....mmmmmmmmmmm.... :9

we have some of the best beer here - if you do microbrews. back home in seattle and here in fort collins, you can find a good microbrew pretty much on every other downtown block. in the airport in madison the other day, i had a great wheat. last night, i had this amazing wheat/oat blonde. OMG, you really are missing out!

10. But surprisingly, not all that well known to most Americans |
|
I first heard it from a college roommate, who was a big fan of microbrews. While I rarely drink, I have to say that trips to the UK, Netherlands and Germany have proven him right.

Seattle has several small brands and brew pubs that put out excellent stuff.

18. You are correct; I should have said "mainstream American beer" |
|
There is a lot of very good microbrew. The big-name American beers, though, are weak, even for a lager.

3. That's okay, it may be brewed better in the future... |
|
However, I don't think they'll change the formula--Americans are fond of drinking what takes like a soft drink instead of real beer.

11. No change will happen |
|
Why would they change? To try to win some doofus beer award? Bud is the biggest selling beer in America. It is a cash-cow. Why would they even think of changing it? There are already a ton of beers fighting for the micro-brew taste. Bud is quite content to remain above the fray selling mass quantities to folks who have never been in a brew-pub in their lives.
Also, I still drink the occasional Bud tall-boy on a hot summer day.

I'm a beer snob in general, but I don't mind Miller Lite or Coors Lite on a hot day whilst BBQ'ing; you can drink a lot of that stuff, not get hammered, and be cooled down. But, if I'm buying for quality rather than quantity, it's St Arnold's in Houston for me, especially their Lawnmower beer. But what do I know, I happen to really like Milwaukee's Best :P

20. Hope they stay Unionized |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 08:50 AM by Bluzmann57
Anheuser Busch is a big time Union employer and I hope they stay that way. I have heard a number of people say they won't drink Bud anymore since it won't be American owned. To them I say "bullshit". I suspect that it will remain the no. 1 beer on the market, beer snobs notwithstanding. Personally, while I enjoy a brew from a local brewer, I still have a Bud or Bud Light sometimes. I do not consider myself a snob. On edit- Maybe I will switch back to good ol' PBR which is still owned by Americans.
