Yesterday my cell phone made it through the washer and then the dryer cycle, came out in three pieces and yet still works like a charm, all I have to do is replace the battery. My wifes phone is the same as mine so I put her battery in mine and it came right on with all its memory, pictures and stored numbers, even the messages I had on it. I'm just amazed that the thing could survive such an ordeal. My wife said when she heard it thumping in the dryer and took it out it was too hot to hold on too but after cooling down it works just fine. Soon after taking it out of the dryer and starting the dryer back up it timed out so that baby was in there pretty much the whole drying cycle. I do know for a fact this morning that a Motorola razr is one tough cell phone. And a new battery only cost me 10 bucks.

1. My son has had two cell phones and my husband has had one go by the

wayside due to water.

My son's first water ruined cell phone was the result of being pulled into a swimming pool, fully dressed, at a high school play cast party. Result: Dead phone.

My husband was working on replacing T-111 siding on the house very close to to pool and fell in. Result: On very irritated male and one dead cell phone.

My son's second water ruined cell phone ended its life in the washing machine. He forgot to take it out of his pocket and I DON'T CHECK POCKETS. Policy there, or I'd never get the laundry done for checking pockets.

Most important thing when a cell phone hits the water: TAKE OUT THE BATTERY and leave it out until it dries. It does not guarantee that the phone will still work, but it improves the chances greatly.

2. Our TV remote wound up in the washer.

After it dried out it worked just fine.

I was going to "accidentally" leave my Razr in my pocket for the wash ...

5. It depends on whether it's powered and how well the boards are sealed.

I'm an oceanographer and we occasionally get electronics flooded. What I usually do is first kill the power and pull any batteries. I then disassemble it as much as possible. I rinse everything with high concentration alcohol. I keep a bottle of >90% rubbing alcohol at home for cleaning electronics and pulling water from electronics. I let the alcohol evaporate for about 30 minutes, then put it in a container with some sort of desiccant like Dryel or something similar.

I've saved my wife's cell phone, several of the kid's toys, and numerous expensive instruments using this method. She accidentally dropped her phone in the dog's water bowl. I've saved a cordless key board and several remotes after my 3 year olds drenched them in milk. IMHO, the amount of success depends on whether the circuit board has a coating on it protecting the electronics and how quickly you can power it down.

7. It was on and in a leg pocket in a pair of shorts, a pocket I don't usually use

I guess the battery cover and battery must have came out early on. I didn't like the durn thing from shortly after I got home with it a year ago or so and when she told me what had happened my first thought was I would just go back to my old phone but I was informed she had donated it so that was out. So I figure what the hell and put the battery back in and nothing so I thought it might have run the battery down so I plugged the charger in and in a second or two it beeped. I open it and look and sure enough it looks just as good as it did before the bath it took. I'm just blown away with that it could take a deluge like a complete wash cycle and dry cycle too. Its one tough sucker is all I know.

6. Wow. I rescued my cell phone from my jeans pocket

yesterday, but if I hadn't I would expect it to be a mess.

8. my last cell phone fell out of my pocket in our drive during the winter

landed in snow, run over by the car, and was encased in ice for almost a week before I found it. I dried it out and it still worked. Kyocera.

9. I had mine in my shirt pocket and took a leak

Bent over to reach for the lever and the phone went right in the bowl . I rinsed it off but it never worked again. It was one of those thin phones from years ago I forget the name but it was real thin and not a flip type..
