Chimpy wants to drill? Here is what we do.
You want to drill chimpy? Ok, we do to. Here are the rules. Every drop of oil that comes out of the ground on our land. or near our shores, will stay here in this country and be consumed by this country. We will pass this as law. Now chimpy, how bad do you and the cons want to drill.

2. No way Republicans would ever agree to that.
I wouldn't care about more drilling here if every drop was sold here in the US.

Not only does the oil stay in the USA..... but the price is regulated..... and Detroit must raise MPG standards by 25% which is possible in the next two years...

5. Excuse the ignorance, but why would the republicans not agree to the oil staying in the US?
I didn't know this... This is going to win me an argument big time with my hubby.

Thanks in advance for the info

8. because the oil companies
because the oil companies want to dump the oil on the glabal market where the speculators can run the price up on it just like they are with the current oil supply.

10. I get the oil companies reason, but why would republicans in congress disagree to keeping it in the
US. What valid reason are they giving

11. since when
since when have the republicans ever needed a valid reason to do anything? If they can start a war in Iraq to enrich their buddies without a valid reason, this is a walk in the park for them. It's all about enriching the oil industry at the expense of everyone else, plain and simple.

9. Very good point..
In addition: Since this is OUR nation's wealth. Every American citizen is entitled to dividends equating to a fair share of the profits derived.

;)

12. That works for me. Also, if you spill any, you are responsible for the cleanup.
AND I MEAN ALL OF IT.

13. We should be able to make some reasonable rules...
that will increase our supply of oil and reduce the price at the pump.

It doesn't do a lot of good for the average citizen if we start pumping more oil and it goes to the ever increasing demand in China and India. Perhaps we could declare that we would only put oil on the global market that exceeded this countries demand. We might declare that oil produced in this country is a strategic commodity essential to this county and its continued welfare. Oil is a global market and all the ins and outs are extremely difficult to comprehend. However, I'm sure we can find a way.

To the environmentalists who feel that our drilling for oil is bad for the environment, we live in a world wide environment. We can drill oil here and be far more environmentally responsible then other countries. China and Cuba are rumored to be preparing to drill in the Gulf of Mexico, 45 miles off the coast of Florida.

The Gulf of Mexico might be the best place for new drilling by the U.S. as we already have infrastructure available and the oil will come on line in a fairly short amount of time. Much less than the 10 years predicted by some people opposed to any drilling.

Perhaps a tax on gasoline might finance efforts to gain energy independence through alternate means such as wind, solar, oil shale, geothermal and tidal power. Bio fuel and hydrogen are also possibilities well worth considering. Nuclear power must also be in the mix.

All these ideas will take time to come to fruition. One thing for sure, we need the people we elect to DO SOMETHING now! We elect these people to represent us and work to improve our nation. The hot air generated by both Republicans and Democrats bickering over a comprehensive energy policy is not a usable energy source. The longer they stall, the higher the price of gasoline will climb.

14. We need to nationalize the American oil companies and kick out
the foreign ones. In order to do this we have to stage a coup, not a coup in the ordinary sense of military taking over the government but a coup in which we the people buy out the majority of stocks and bonds in all the oil companies. Of course it would be a hostile take over, by buying up as much of the stock in each company as we can nationwide until we the people are majority stockholders. Well, I dream, but I wish we could do it.
