|
Top Story$10-a-gallon gasoline puts U.S. prices in perspective Honked off by American pump prices? Cheer up. You could be commuting in Oslo, Norway, where gasoline costs $9.85 a gallon and filling up a Mini Cooper would set you back $130. There’s always SOMETHING to be grateful for.—Caro And be very glad you're not this poor kid. The Freeway BloggerFor more headlines, visit MakeThemAccountable.com.Carolyn Kay MakeThemAccountable.com

Getting around Oslo without a car is probably quite easy.....and their high gas taxes pay for a wealth of services (health care among them) we don't get a whiff of.

This is up there with the schmuck in my office that thought the economy must be turning around because of all the new "houses for sale" ads.
YOU be grateful. I know we're getting screwed!

9. Sacrifices? Yeah, right |
|
People bitch about gas prices and rightly so. However, I have not heard any call for any sacrifices from the American public from either party.
I live in SoCal where public trans sucks and you are pretty much are forced to drive to get to just about anywhere. But the people (generalizing of course) overall still want their toys and are content to let others figure it out. Maybe it's time we weren't so into "stuff" (look up George Carlin's classic bit about it). It costs something like $4,000,000 to fuel an ocean tanker, so we can all get our goodies from China. How many have REALLY stopped buying useless crap? I would think not many. And that includes my family, but to a much lesser extent than some.
Any sacrifices for the public good disappeared long ago during WWII. So perhaps we should not only blame others, but look in the mirror.

10. People with SUVs pay far more than $130 to fill the tank. |
|
So it really doesn't equate.
