Lou Dobbs Is Acting Like An Idiot. You Knew That, But Here's The Latest Example |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 06:44 PM by ihavenobias
He was talking about how at least McCain and Bush are DOING SOMETHING about our crazy gas prices by calling for more off-shore drilling, unlike Obama and the Democrats in Congress who are fighting against the will of the people and not providing the relief from high prices that everyone wants and demands.
Oh Lou, you damn fool...it will NOT provide relief. At best, from what I recall, we might hope to have "relief" in the form of gas that's 1-10 cents cheaper per gallon 7-10 years from now, give or take.
Lou pretends to be the populist that cuts through the BS and doesn't stand behind any particular party. If you believe that, great. But someone needs to explain how the basically symbolic gesture of off-shore drilling is going to have any significant, tangible impact (aka, "relief"). Instead Lou keeps harping on the "at least they're doing something about it" point. According to Lou's logic, the next time there's a big fire in California we should be happy if McCain visits and tries to put it out by blowing on it.
I mean hey, at least he'd be *doing* something.
PS---Also in case you missed it, .
To be fair though, .

The fact that he's wrong on the off-shore drilling doesn't negate his efforts on behalf of the American working class.

4. I was just going to jump in with my regular defense of Lou Dobbs when |
|
it comes to the working/middle class. He's written a book The War On The Middle Class) which is an eye opened and I feel sums it up pretty well.
BUT, on this oil drilling he's wrong.

|
I just think he deserves the credit for trying to bring this issue to the forefront when nobody else even gave it a thought - or realized what road we were heading down.
He was a local newscaster in Seattle for years, but I can't remember what I thought of him at the time.

27. Was that satire? the working class? Would that be the hard |
|
working white class? Because everytime that I watch him he's trying to instill fear of blacks or hispanics in the hearts of Mr. and Mrs. Rube. Listen carefully to what the man says--he's not speaking on behalf of hard working blacks or hispanics.

Please cite me a single instance where Lou Dobbs was trying to "instill fear" of blacks. Then also cite me a single instance where Lou Dobbs was trying to "instill fear" of Hispanic citizens of the U.S.
Good luck.

Just like asking OPEC to cut us a break. It won't do anything, but it is better then doing nothing.

7. I respectfully disagree. I do not see the point in throwing out regulations for no results. |

I do not believe there will be much psychological relief if the oil companies continue to shut down refineries and make record profits.

The best policy should win.
The non-intellectual non-liberals see a cheap way to score political points. When the price doesn't go down, the magic of the free market will be touted as divine.

5. Ah, but See... He is Selling the Idea |
|
the idea that Dems need to do what corporate America and big oil want them to do.....
I don't even believe Lou Dobbs really believes what he says. He's a con, a propagandist tool selling ideas to the public to curb the public's perception. Guess what?
It seems to work on the Dems every fucking time.

He came to the defense of the middle class when he realized there was indeed a WAR against us.
This time he's SO wrong.

12. He does discuss many populist issues, but his answers to the issues can be questionable |
|
I also think he goes too far with the cynical "nothing will change, they're all the same" shtick. And he often has a hyper-focus on undocumented workers.
Not that I don't think that's a relevant issue (I do), but he should focus more on employers and exploited labor rather than personalizing it so much which I think he often does.

I'm not one of them.
But I do like watch bits of various MSM shows (not everyday day but when I can) so that I can see what the conventional wisdom/BS spin is. It's important to know what the average American is exposed to, especially considering about 74% of Americans get their news from TV.

someone is doing something, but in my mind, the real question is WHY do the oil companies want more leases that they're not going to drill? I've read quite a few articles that they don't have the equipment to drill offshore, and aren't even sure there's much oil there. It seems the real problem is lack of refinery capacity, and that was intentional. I've seen the memos that said "we can't make the kind of nomey we want with all this excessd capacity, and we need to shut down a lot of refineries." There were more than 200 refineries shut down after that, a nd now this mess is what we've got! Why do they want all these leases? Is it because they're afraid someone else will get them first?

32. Lou Dobbs, the lazy journalist. |
|
I know, I know, calling Lou Dobbs a journalist is like calling mickey mouse an actual mouse.
but like most tv talking heads he goes for the knee jerk (emphasis on jerk) reaction of the public.
it's all about ratings. He doesn't give a fuck. He just wants a larger audience share.
