6. A republican?
Reagan stood for

Every poor man for himself - every rich man with government in his right pocket.
Making nice with evil thugs and dictators.
concentrating wealth at the top
controlling what consenting adults do in their own bedrooms
forcing other people's kids to pray
screwing over the worlds most vulnerable people for a quick buck
destroying emerging democracies around the world

Sounds Republican to me...........

14. Hundreds of thousands that crossed party line in primaries starting in 76

Truth be told, I volunteered to help Raygun as he ran against Ford in 76. I was young and dumb. I knew Ron had been the SAG President and figured he would be kind to labor. There were other reasons. Charisma. Talked pro on many Dem issues. Etc... Yes I was very young & stupid.

39. Well I was there and this is pretty accurate
He concluded that "Reagan Democrats" no longer saw Democrats as champions of their working class aspirations, but instead saw them as working primarily for the benefit of others: the very poor, the unemployed, African Americans, and other political pressure groups.

I was in a UNION during this time, I knew plenty of union members who voted for Reagan twice. The general attitude was angrily expressed as

"The goddamn motherfuckin' Democrats don't give a damn about us anymore" (blue-collar white men), "so fuck 'em, I'm voting for Reagan, see how they like that!"

44. Yes he was...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charleton_Heston

In the 1950s and 1960s he was one of a handful of Hollywood actors to speak openly against racism and was an active supporter of the Civil Rights Movement. Initially a liberal Democrat, he later supported conservative politics ...

Heston campaigned for Presidential candidate Adlai Stevenson in 1956 and John F. Kennedy in 1960.Reportedly when an Oklahoma movie theater premiering his movie El Cid was segregated, he joined a picket line outside in 1961. Heston makes no reference to this in his autobiography, but describes traveling to Oklahoma City to picket segregated restaurants, much to the chagrin of Allied Artists, the producers of El Cid.<18> During the civil rights march held in Washington, D.C. in 1963, he accompanied Martin Luther King Jr. In later speeches, Heston said he helped the civil rights cause, "long before Hollywood found it fashionable."

Following the assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy in 1968, Heston and actors Gregory Peck, Kirk Douglas and James Stewart issued a statement calling for support of President Johnson's Gun Control Act of 1968. He opposed the Vietnam War and in 1969 was approached by the Democratic party to run for the U.S. Senate. He agonized over the decision and ultimately determined he could never give up acting.

Heston reportedly said the excesses of the 1960s and early 70s were what turned him right.

It's someone who is an old south democrat that doesn't want to change their affiliation mostly.
Also Europeans who were picked on because they were not anglo saxon so they identified with the party of the people but now they have no compassion for those under them.
