Billboard displaying burning twin towers reads ‘please don’t vote for a Democrat
from ThinkProgress:

Billboard displaying burning twin towers reads ‘please don’t vote for a Democrat.’»

A billboard on display in Orange County, Florida shows the World Trade Center towers burning while telling passers-by: “Please Don’t Vote for a Democrat.” The local ABC News affiliate reports that the person responsible is a local musician “trying to help Republicans” but that “officials with both political parties are calling the billboard inappropriate.”

1. Those burning towers happened on a Republican's watch.

4. Inappopriate, unfortunate, regrettable...
When will somebody just say it's WAY THE HELL OUT OF LINE?

They are legally allowed to do it. But if a Democrat had posted the same thing with a "don't let a Republican let this happen again" the owner of the sign, the organization who posted it, and anybody within two generations would be executed publicly.

7. They should sue?
Look, as much as this sign disgusts me, it is freedom of speech.

9. Ever heard of libel?
definition:

. A false publication, as in writing, print, signs, or pictures, that damages a person's reputation.

13. Huh?
C'mon. Libel is a personal tort, not against a group.

And the sign says nothing libelous anyway. Just "Don't vote Democratic". The obvious implication of the sign is that we are weaker in defending the country. That's a false implication, yet falls very clearly in the realm of "opinion" in a legal sense.

8. The right to free speech also extends to our right to call him
a fucking asshole. And if he can't take the obscene, nasty responses to his garbage, well, tough shit.

Speech is free - consequences are not.

12. There are some scarily stupid people in the world.
Who owns the billboard? That's who we should criticize - after all, they let the billboard go up.

15. I feel pretty certain that this works the opposite of how the owner assumes.
There's NO f-ing way MOST of America could see such a think and NOT think, "That happened with a Republican pResident."
