Dean taking voter registration bus across the South...starts Thursday at Crawford, TX
and at Netroots Nation...formerly known as Yearly Kos.

Netroots Nation is in Austin, TX, and the first event will have been at Crawford, Texas, on Thursday morning.

From Daily Kos today.

Dean Kicking Off National Voter Registration Drive at NN Rally Thursday

From Texas, the tour heads to New Orleans - a city that experienced the failings of Republican leadership in Washington firsthand - and then to Shreveport and Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Hattiesburg and Jackson, Mississippi. The second swing, July 25-26, will make stops in North Carolina and Georgia - two untraditional battleground states where voter registration efforts will help lead Barack Obama to victory in November. The tour will hit states in every part of the country, culminating in a swing through the Midwest on its way to the Democratic Convention in Denver.

Love the bus design.

To everyone lucky enough to be in Austin this week for the convention, another event has been added to the calendar. DNC Chairman Howard Dean will begin a nationwide voter registration drive with a rally at Netroots Nation to be held Thursday at 12:00, directly across from the convention center.

This is the kickoff event for Register for Change, a cross country bus tour designed to "build on the overwhelming enthusiasm and voter turnout seen during the primaries" and is a part of "the 50-state strategy and Senator Obama's commitment to running a 50 state campaign."

Dean will also give the opening speech at Netroots Nation at 7:30 Thursday night.

Here is more about the opening event in Crawford, Texas.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean is embarking on a voter registration bus tour he hopes will help push Dixie to the Democrats.

Dean's trip begins Thursday in President Bush's hometown of Crawford, Texas, riding an eye-catching bus wrapped in the red, white and blue of presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign logo.

Dean said in a telephone interview that he'll focus on winning over people who are struggling economically.

"We think that they have been disillusioned," said Dean, a former Vermont governor and presidential candidate in 2004. "Many of them voted for George Bush. We think they want something new and we're going to provide it for them."

I think it is a bus in great Obama design, and a very idea for voter registration.

(edited to change the word "colors" to the word "design".)

5. Wouldn't that be great if he did?
I wonder if Crawford could be a wee bit disillusioned with the Bushes now?

My friend Dot got her Mini Cooper wrapped with Dean stuff during the campaign, and had such a blast with it.

I had the honor of riding in the Deanie Cooper from Dallas down to the state convention in Houston in 2004. We got lotsa thumbs up from Texans.

Don't worry mad. Dome people are just out to piss on everyone's parade. Obama's colors are a lovely shade of red white and blue.

He is consistently great. He is the only politician who has ever gotten me to phone bank! (I'd rather have root canal than phone bank, but I did it for Howard.)

Any one know if we can hear Howard's speech? stream it? c-span?

8. Registration are up for Democrats in Florida, but I've been telling folks...

vote in the primary and make sure that you have a valid registration! There are lots of tricks and traps here, and that is one way to make sure that you aren't on one of the fake felony lists, that the precinct is right, and that you have the correct ID that matches the registration.

I hope that someone has a plan to monitor the voting machines and tabulators, too!
