I've been a member of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) for 17 years.
I get to choose from a wide array of private HMOs, PPOs and PPVs, all of which have to meet the requirements of the program (like no exclusions for preexisting conditions) to offer benefits. I get to decide which plan works best for me.
Expanding FEHBP to cover all Americans would be better than some single-payer national plan, IMO.
