Officer wrecks squad car 29 minutes into job

HOBART, Ind. (AP) - Police officer Tim Pochron's first day on the job went poorly: Less than a half-hour into it, his squad car was wrecked in a crash.

Pochron was inside his house at 12:29 a.m. Monday when someone hit his new squad car parked outside, as well as a tree, police said.

"Pochron was 29 minutes into the first day of his new job when his parked squad car was struck," Lt. Steve Houck said.

The driver tested positive for drugs, was arrested and taken to a hospital, police said.

Pochron, 26, was sworn in last week. He was supposed to work the morning shift Monday. Instead, he spent the morning filling out paperwork at the police station.

The force of the crash bent the rear axle of the squad car. Deputy Chief Jeff White said the car can be repaired, though he's not sure how much it will cost.

Pochron "was just heartbroken," White said.

2. At least he didn't sit IN the car when it crashed
nor was he the reason for the crash .... both would have been worse.

3. Terribly intentional misleading headline. How irritating. Imagine being the poor cop reading it.
Just asinine!

24. Yep. The officer didn't have any hand in wrecking the car
just a bit of bad luck, really. What are editors doing to justify their existence these days?

4. That's An Unfair Title
The officer didn't wreck his squad car, the guy who ran into his parked squad car wrecked it.

13. I'm thinking this happened at 12:29 AM on the morning of his first day.
His shift probably started at 7:00 AM or something.

Man, that is some sloppy writing.

They are intentionally twisting the event to make it more than what it is.

7. Very bad reporting, but you still have to feel for Officer Pochron
Twenty years from now, Tim Pochron's going to be chief of police in Hobart and the only thing anyone will know about him is that someone totaled his squad car the first day he was a cop.

10. "officer's squad car wrecked 29 minutes into his first day on the job"
would be a more honest title.

20. Link to your revelation that an astonishing 90 percent
of all cops are Republican assholes with an authority complex.

What's that? You have no link?

Of course you don't. :eyes:

Yea, there are a lot of asshole cops.

But there are a lot of asshole DMV workers too.

"Little more than than 30 days into his illustrious career at DU, and the poster already began making asinine accusation with little more than anecdotal evidence to back him up. This newspaper has no sympathy..."

Maybe the headline should read: "Officer loafing at home 29 minutes into job."
