1. Every step is of great worth. I like this line:
Instead, the panel will conduct an election-year review — possibly televised — of anything Democrats consider to be Bush's abuse of power.

The abuses of power run deep with these War Criminals. There should be some fireworks, and whether or not we get Impeachment, we will get hearings into public record, and usher a New Majority of Democrats this Fall.

3. Different stage of the proceedings
Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 08:06 AM by onenote
The hearings held in Dec 1998 were formal impeachment inquiry hearings, as authorized by a resolution approved by the House in October. That resolution followed an earlier set of hearings by Judiciary that were not televised. At best, the hearing(s) that were announced yesterday are comparable to the non-televised pre-October hearings in 1998.

As the story linked in the OP states quite clearly, the hearings announced yesterday are not "impeachment" hearings (notwithstanding what the OP claims)

I think holding these hearings is a good thing, but they're not impeachment hearings and I'd be completely shocked if they lead to a vote on any articles of impeachment or a resolution authorizing the Judiciary Committee to conduct a formal impeachment inquiry
