Va.-Warner (D) has a bit of an edge in fund raising over Gilmore (R)

As the two major-party candidates for the Senate began the final four months of the campaign, Warner had $5 million in the bank, while Gilmore had $116,000.

Warner raised $2.9 million in the second quarter and has raised $9.1 million to date, his campaign report shows. He already has spent $4.1 million -- almost four times as much as Gilmore has raised.

Gilmore raised $480,000 in the quarter. To date, he has raised about $1.1 million and spent $1,058,000.

:bounce: my question-what in the hell has Gilmore spent a $1Million on? I haven't even seen an TV ad yet.

1. He's reduced to robo-calling...
He has run some ads up in NOVA. I haven't seen any for a while though. I guess ole Jimmy misunderestimated his "popularity".

4. A Million bucks worth???
see Kharma's post below...sounds like what could be going on

The cons in Va. are in a pitched battle against the moderates and Gilmore was supposed to be a bone to throw them (Who is going to beat Warner really?) but of course they wanted more so they elected some 30 year old guy (tossing Bush father-in-law Hager aside) and blocked everything that Kaine or the Dems even suggested in terms of the roads. Yeah THAT is going to be a real winner in NoVa and Tidewater...not

5. I guess his fiscal management hasn't improved with time?
I agree, I can't imagine how he's blown through a mil already. Sounds fishy to say the least.

I do so love watching the GOP implode in Virginia....

2. And This Dude Was Running For President A Year Ago???
So much for the political fortunes of Happy Gilmore. I don't think he even made it to the first of the year.

Maybe Gilmore's using DSW Direct...the scam outfit that raises millions for candidates (usually long shots) and then charges them large fees for direct mail, phone banks and other BS...ending up taking most of what they raised. TPMMuckraker has a great series on this company and the fleecing their doing to both GOOP donors and candidates.
