Sure, it may not help. Is that enough to make you decide to sit back and take no action?

How much energy / effort does it take to make a phone call... send an e-mail... write a letter?

Wouldn't it be great if every time we posted something about the M$M's failures, we also took a few short minutes to address it in some way? However pointless it seems, it's far better than doing nothing but complaining.

3. just mention to those networks how their viewer numbers
could hit the roof if they televised it, they are such suckers for viewer ratings.

If the so-called cable "news" networks aren't covering it... it'd be nearly irresistible.

5. if there are impeachment hearngs, they will be televised. Unfortunately
there aren't going to be impeachment hearings. It has been made clear that the hearings that may be held later this month are not specifically impeachment hearings or hearings on Kucinich's resolution. THey are general oversight hearings into the failings and misdeeds of chimpy and his gang. While DK will be invited to testify, the chances of these hearings leading to a vote on his resolution or to the commencement of a formal Judiciary COmmittee impeachment inquiry are close to zero.

I think the hearings are a good thing, but there seems to be a lot of confusion/misinformation here at DU on what these hearings are/aren't and what they will/won't accomplish.

6. They are hearings on the fact that Bush lied us into war.
The war is a pretty big issue. People will want to see this.

Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 10:26 AM by onenote
According to the only report I've seen, the hearing will be an oversight hearing taking a broad look at the behavior of the bush administration. Kucinich will be invited to tesitfy, but the hearings wont' be specifically focused on his resolution.

Conyers himself has downplayed the significance of the hearings by comparing them to the oversight hearings that were held in to the Plame leak and the firings of the US attorneys.

http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docID=news-000002916681

My prediction: These hearings will get gavel to gavel coverage on CSPAN, partial coverage on the cable news nets, and no live coverage on broadcast.

8. Right... they'll also address other examples of Bush's abuse of power.
Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 10:25 AM by redqueen
Instead, the panel will conduct an election-year review — possibly televised — of anything Democrats consider to be Bush's abuse of power. Kucinich, D-Ohio, is likely to testify. But so will several scholars and administration critics, Democrats said.

If you don't think it's worth the effort to *try* to get broadcast coverage, fine... don't.

11. I think its worth as much as anything else posted here.
Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 10:35 AM by onenote
And if people want to try to get the broadcast nets to cover it, that's fine. But the networks understand what these hearings are really about (the election) and the argument, which I've seen here at DU, we should be demanding the broadcast networks televise these hearings because they televised the Judiciary Committee hearings on the Clinton impeachment miss the point since those hearings were held at a far different stage in the process than the hearings being discussed now.

There is a lot of misinformation being posted about the significance of the referral of DK's resolution and of the hearings. I understand that some people don't like it when this misinformation is debunked.

No one has compared these hearings to Clinton's in this thread. So...

As for all the misinformation you're debunking... is there any here? If not, why do you keep bringing it up?

As for people not liking when misinformation is debunked... um... ok? :wtf:

So, from that standpoint, I will concede that there no longer is misinformation about the nature of the hearings in this thread.

13. 202-225-3951 House Judiciary - no hearing scheduled
as of this morning, maybe we can make sure they actually follow thru and schedule the hearing? And yes I would love to see it covered on regular TV channels.

Remember that many Democrats do not want to see this administration held accountable as they might be exposed as well.

If we just send them a short e-mail and just say

To Congress: When are the Bush Impeachment Hearings scheduled be on the Broadcast TV?

Not just on cable TV!!

To the Media: Please air the Bush Impeachment Hearings on Broadcast TV!
Everyone in the country would be watching like it was Super Bowl Sunday!

Or something to that effect! :P

Keep it short and sweet!

Please focus on only the article of impeachment... there are far too many abuses of power to properly address them all in one hearing.

Can you write a short blurb including what you wrote

I can't right now. Too tired. Zzzzzz...

So I can copy it and send it? ;)
