A Million Citizen March
Why NOT?

From all directions

From all corners of the nation

A thousand marches shall commence

Citizens will join in

The masses will converge on Washington DC

The capital will be shut down

We will be armed with our ideas

We will be sanctioned by Justice

The country has been taken over by traitors

Pelosi, Bush, Cheney, Harmon, Rockefeller, Mukasy, Hayden, ALL OF THEM

There is no way to fix this thing

There is no electoral solution (sorry Barack, maybe another time)

It is up to us, you and me

I have NOTHING to lose except my chains

I am sad

I am angry

No one else is going to save us

:cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

1. Ok, so there we are, on the mall and then what?

I like the idea of a nice demonstration but unless you actually plan to DO something when you get a million or so people in DC, what's the point?

Where's the line for the porta potty start??

25. And what, exactly, would they be celebrating?
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 12:20 PM by Breeze54
The millions of Iraqi's killed and displaced and suffering for the lie to invade their country? Or maybe you want to be "dancing & playing music on every corner" to celebrate the unnecessary deaths of 4,121 of our sons and daughters? Perhaps you would
be kicking up your heels in joy for all the people whom have lost their jobs, their home, their lives for lack of affordable health care?
I would not be celebrating on that march. There's nothing to celebrate. :(

If you all go, Bring pitchforks, torches.....

and brooms!!

26. Celebrating that what is good is more powerful than all the evil, and that it's going to prevail in
our world. It's no accident that so many people have responded to a message of hope. It's beyond political, it comes from the deepest longing of the human heart.

38. It's more than just change. FOr example, a presidential candidate who offered to invade
South America instead of the middle east for a change wouldn't inspire people very much. It's the nature of the change, the possibility of goodness, and having a voice, and ending wars, and healing the country that inspires

2. why not you ask?
Because it's not realistic. The goal is blurry and the method needs improvement IMO.

So, how can it be made realistic. First it needs a theme. End the War. Impeach Bush. etc

How about: Make Rove Face Justice

This will demonstrate that we are not just protesting the administration, but also any democrats that hesitate to enforce the supoena.

A large assembly (we used to get a few hundred thousand in the 60s antiwar demos) with this theme could potentially be scary to the arrogant bastards that think they are above the law and inspire some detectable panicky, scrambling cover-ups. We may even get a few that will bail and give unsolicited testimony.

14. It would need a unifying theme
I don't think people would turn out specifically for Rove, but I do think they would turn out for

"Support and Uphold the Constitution" because that umbrella would unite:

The people who want impeachment
The people against FISA
The people against Torture
The people against Politicizing the Justice Department, Unitary executive, etc.
The people mad about outing CIA agents
The people mad about illegal wars
The people mad about our ineffectual, do-nothing Congress
The people who demand habeas corpus be restored
The Rule of Lawers in general.

Imagine all the great signage!

20. The people who have hope, who love honesty and beauty,
the ones who care about the earth and the future for the children,
who love the diversity of humanity,
and clean up their own act before they judge the acts of others;
the ones who love freedom, true freedom, and life itself.
the activists, the pacifists, the wholistic, humanistic, heartful, reasonable, humane ones,
the truthtellers, the courageous ones, the ones who care too much,
the broken hearted ones and the healers, the ones who have given up and
the ones who like to lift them up,
The thirsty ones, the water carriers;
the rickrolled and LOLcats, the tombstoned.

21. How about just for hope, and all that it stands for.
Hope started the fire that is getting Obama into office. Hope is the thing that scares the creatures of darkness, the real threat to greed, cheat and deceit. When the sun comes up, things of darkness go back into hiding, or die fried on the sidewalk.

A couple of posters agreed with me. Not a lot, though. They were "afraid" that nobody would care. I responded, "Think MLK."

11. An auguration parade
I wrote this after Bush was elected in 2000. Maybe it is coming true, at last.
I like your idea of a million people march, except it should be a zillion.
...............
I would like to propose an Auguration Parade,
and an Auguration day, to happen simultaneously with the
inauguration parade of the new president.

The Auguration Parade could run along the same route
as the Inauguration parade, except it could go in the opposite
direction -- and keep on going, in all directions, even when
the other parade has ended.

As you may know it is uncommon in our society for a "parade"
to be colorful strings and bumps of people all marching to
different drummers --

but in our Auguration Parade, people can run
to the end of the line, if they want to, or sit down
by the side of the road, if they are tired;

they can take their hats off in the sun, if they're hot,
or keep them on, if they're not -- if they want to --
or put their hats on on backwards,
or walk backwards;

and everyone can play whatever instrument they choose,
wearing any colors they choose, any costume at all.

...

So I propose an Auguration Parade, which by its very
nature will be a protest against all that seeks to oppress,
impoverish, and deny our basic human freedom of
expression, and choice.

If anyone asks why an Auguration Parade? we can say:

this is for the future of our world, to make it hopeful and colorful;
this is for the children, to make them brave and unique,
for all the young people, the students, to
remind them to celebrate, even in the midst of darkness;

this is for the schools, to make them rich with creative
endeavors in all corners;

This Parade is for the martyrs, the fools, the homeless,
the motley crews -- a Parade for anybody who wants
to be in a parade that day: an Auguration Parade,
a living demonstration that the human heart is ageless and joyful;

and if this Parade comes down your street you can join it;
and if you have dancing bells, all the better.

18. I think
that getting as many military men as possible for support, active and non, would be a big help. To coordinate with DKs impeachment hearings would be a good start. Demonstrations are unfortunately coming up the way things are going here, but I think the sooner this happens the better. The longer people wait for this, the more desperate times we will be in, thus harder to control-- it has to be peaceful and controlled or everything would be lost. My 2cents.

28. I like your enthusiasm and spunk
What is with us today that we just sit home in front of our keyboards and respond in writing? I protested the Viet Nam war back in the 70's when I was still in High School in at least 3 marches that I remember. I worry that we have been pacified by TV and propaganda so that we are inert with apathy. Another thing I'm guilty of is forgetting issues the minute they are out of the headlines. I swear to my self I'll keep a running list of the issues that have me all fired up. And bring them back up later to keep the fires burning. I'm asleep at the wheel with the worst of them. And feeling guilty won't solve any thing. I need to kick my own ass.

37. What happens if a million people converge on DC and the media doesn't cover it?
Oh, wait, that's happened three times since the War in Iraq started and I was even there for one of them so I know exactly what happens. Or rather, what doesn't happen. However, if you want to meet 999,999 of your fellow patriots, it's great fun. But if you think this idea is going to save us, well, not so much.
