Bush’s personal aide returns at top
http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20080716/pl_politico/11792;_ylt=Aghctl_dwzPcTbTk5QnGG.eyFz4D

Blake L. Gottesman, 28, formerly President Bush’s personal aide, is returning to succeed deputy chief of staff Joe Hagin, the White House announced Wednesday.

“I’m excited to be a rejoining the president and his team, and I look forward to sprinting to the finish," Gottesman said in a statement.

Gottesman, a Texan and longtime family friend, is the youngest person ever named to President Bush’s senior staff.

His title will be assistant to the president and deputy chief of staff.

Since leaving the White House in 2006, he graduated from Harvard Business School.

In his previous White House position, Gottesman turned a job that customarily has been somewhat junior — keeper of the bags and papers — into a management position that streamlined the president’s paper flow. He also built a rapid, fail-safe, thank-you-note process that has been continued and has brought the president considerable goodwill with people he meets around the world.

A White House official said: “Blake knows White House operations inside and out. He has so much respect and loyalty to the president that he was willing to come back and serve in the last six months, even though his promising career in the private sector was just about to take off.”

When Gottesman left the White House, Time magazine called him “the unquestioned authority” on the president’s moods and desires, frequently consulted by the senior staff about how, when or whether a topic should be broached.

Hagin, who has served in his indispensable role throughout the Bush presidency, announced earlier this month that he would leave July 20 to take a corporate job. His office is the single junction where Bush’s personal life, presidency, ranch, security and military support all come together.

Hagin effectively has had the final call on a host of internal matters, from titles to BlackBerrys to the Air Force One manifest.

4. Last 6 months of an administration; they're calling up guys from the Single A league
This is actually common in the waning days of an administration for people on the C list or D list (or below) to get called up to senior staff jobs.

34. It seems unlikely that this guy could do anything in 6 months
that would be worse than what we've already seen for the past 7 1/2 years.

Hope I don't have to eat those words.

19. Yep that's him--but he *IS* qualified
Gottesman was educated at St. Andrews Episcopal School and Stephen F. Austin High School, both in Austin, Texas; during this time he dated Jenna Bush when the President owned the Texas Rangers Major League Baseball team. Gottesman attended Claremont McKenna College for one year. While at Claremont McKenna College, he served as the personal assistant to the Associated Student Body President. :wow:

Though he initially said he had plans to finish college and then attend business school after finishing his work at the White House, Gottesman did not return to college and instead enrolled in Harvard Business School, graduating in 2008.<7> His admission to the school despite not having received an undergraduate degree was criticized by some media commentators.<8>

"In his previous White House position, Gottesman turned a job that customarily has been somewhat junior — keeper of the bags and papers — into a management position that streamlined the president’s paper flow..."

Streamlined the president’s paper flow? LOL Bush reads NOTHING! He threw out the daily PDB's and for this he's promoted?

That thank you note process he "built" must be a freaking masterpiece, too.

FACE IT: Nobody else on earth was stoopid enough to take this job!
