I've been working a job outside of my chosen field (editing) for several years now. the benefits are just good enough for me to justify NOT looking for another job. I sometimes wonder about my skill set atrophying, but I make my mortgage payments and I don't want for much.

Of course that all may change when the cold months roll around and I have no heating oil . . .

I went freelance last June, immediately had plenty of work and made damn good money through the end of '07. This year though the industry is beginning to feel the sting of high gas prices and the generally shitty economy. Luckily the phone is still ringing, just not nearly as much.

15. in your same boat. my startup is folding after a year

my career path of the last 9 years is taking an abrupt turn as I now go to my cousin who is opening a pizza buffet restaurant in chubby, white, republican-ville across from the local walmart superstore for a job as an assistant manager. So much for my plans.

As I write this I am in a local eatery while I connect to the internet for my daily download of podcasts to listen to all day back at my now non-internetted duplex apartment.
