Creepy Motherfucker Of The Month

This creepy motherfucker was busted for participation in on online child sex ring. This picture was taken when the creepy motherfucker was busted in a sting when he thought he was meeting a kid he talked to online.

Did I say I thought he was a creepy motherfucker?

He's a creepy motherfucker.

1. busted for thought crimes.
A creepy MF for sure and glad for intervention that will maybe stop him from really hurting someone - but I wonder about why we allow people to be taken down for thought crimes. they didn't actually do anything with a minor (that we can prove). the people on the other end were all adults. so the guy is busted for words and intentions.

great for protecting kids - slippery slope for civil rights.

3. they had a sting around here, nabbed a local network anchor
the guy spooked at the last minute and took off, but they busted him. It ended up with a misdemeanor conviction. He was in an adult chat room and he rightfully assumed they were role playing (to say the least)There were no minors involved.

4. What if I hire a hitman to kill someone - but it's actually an undercover cop?
You always hear about cases where someone hires what they think is a hitman to kill another person, but it turns out to be an undercover cop. Even though the murder never took place, and the cop wasn't actually a hitman, they are still charged with attempted murder. Is this a similar situation?

I am totally against police stings for petty shit like prostitution and drugs. But something like this, where someone goes out of their way to solicit sex from what they think is a minor, seems to rub me the wrong way (no pun intended).

6. it's a squiggly smudgy line to say the least
I am never quite sure where the line is myself as far as where protection ends and fascism starts.

On the prostitution busts. I always thought those were idiotic too until I found out that in my county more than 70% of prostitution stings end up freeing women and/or children forced into such. probably not that high everywhere. Here we've had a rash of "spas" busted and turned out to have kidnapped and brutalized women and girls.

Having said that, spending police power on consenting women and men haggling over the price of services to be rendered is just silly.

18. i'm for legalizing prostitution
but not child rape.

and if you plan to have sex with a child below the age of consent AND take a substantial step towards completing that act, that's CRIMINAL ATTEMPT just like if you plan to blow up a building, and buy a bunch of explosives and stuff.

inchoate crimes are real. they are not "thought crimes"

thought crime is punishing somebody for their BELIEFS, not their actions

you can WANT to have sex with 8 yr olds.

you can advocate for legalizing sex with 8 yr olds

you can write fantasies about having sex with 8 yr old
all legal

but you can't TRY to have sex with 8 yr olds.

grok the difference?

16. actually
Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 11:29 PM by aspergris
in most cases what you describe would be criminal solicitation (of murder), but yes - the point is valid.

let me give you another example.

you plan to kill me.

you know I am sleeping in a sleeping bag at a campsite.

you get your gun and walk towards my campsite.

unbeknownst to you, I have just died from a heart attack.

you see me lying in the sleeping bag, not realizing I am dead, and pump two rounds into me.

What's the crime?

Attempted murder. even though you COULDN"T have killed me no matter how hard you tried, and you didn't kill me, it's still attempted murder.

same concept.

5. In this case, I kind of prefer it that way.
When there is clear intent, I have no problem with them nabbing him before he is able to hurt a(nother) child.

20. note that
generally speaking, there must be intent AND an overt act.

and this is not unique to child rape.

it's true for crimes as diverse as attempted murder, solicitation to commit murder, attempted VUCSA, attempted VUFA, conspiracy to commit murder, etc.

it has ZERO to do with thought crimes

you are not being punished for advocacy of illegal activity, or fantasies. you are punished for action, just like any other crime

7. The story says "child sexual abuse"
If someone even THINKS about abusing my child, I'm going to view them as a threat - and act accordingly.

8. the RICO statute vs organized mob is a thought crime law
so are laws on criminal conspiracy, solicitation of crimes, and a host of others. Are you opposed to those too?

And slippery slope arguments are bullshit. The Domino theory of Communism was a slippery slope argument.

19. they are not thought crime laws
as described by orwell et al

they are INCHOATE crimes.

huge difference.

you can fantasize about illegal activity, write about it, advocate for it (see: nambla) but you can't DO it.

and ANY crime, when you plan to do it and take a substantial step towards completion of the crime with the intent to complete the crime is criminal attempt, not thought crime

11. I have a huge "slow torture for anybody who fucks with a kid" stance.
...and I think this guy really was trying to fuck a little girl, so I'm ok with it.

..until I realize that I also have a pretty strong stance on Constitutional rights.

That lands me in a quandary.

The bottom line is that I want people who hurt kids to be tortured...and most of you are way too nice to imagine the tortures I'd advocate. At the same time, when we bend the rules to persecute one group of people (however deserving of persecution) we weaken ALL of our rights.

I'm unhappy with my decision on this one, but we really can't start prosecuting thought crimes.
