Hoenig out-pigs himself, says working for the common good is un-American
http://www.newshounds.us/2008/07/16/capitalist_pig_hoenig_outpigs_himself_says_working_for_the_common_good_is_unamerican.php#more

RawStory has a segment from FOX and Friends yesterday 7/15/08 that must be noted: "Fox business analyst: Serving the common good is 'un-American'"

From the aptly self-proclaimed Capitalist Pig:

"There is a belief now," Hoenig went on, "that individuals, especially young people, should essentially ... 'devote themselves' to something greater than themselves -- sacrifice their own wants, their own interests, to serve the common good, whatever they happen to believe it is at the time. To me, that's very un-American."

Hoenig denied that there is any such thing as the "common good" beyond what a politician might say it is. "I just don't think it's the role of the government," he complained, "to have me tutoring young kids if I don't want to or digging latrines if I don't want to or cleaning up trash at housing projects."

Even when asked about the value of military service, Hoenig insisted that "people who serve in the military do so voluntarily, and I think they do so out of their own self-interest. They do so because they want to attack and kill a militant Islam. They do it very selfishly."

1. Must've cut his teeth on Ayn Rand.
I sure wouldn't want to live in a world with a majority of these kind of people.

2. Jonathan "Greed is Good" Hoenig cannot out pig himself. He is part
of the reason that I say bring back the draft.

3. Hey Hoenig . . . do the words "promote the general welfare" mean anything to you?
Nah, probably not.

6. They serve in the military because they want to kill a militant Islam?
Project much, buddy? How about all the men and women who serve in the hopes of getting a better education than they could have afforded on their own?

7. Republican Philosophy, meet nutshell
Hoenig has so nicely encapsulated Republican philosophy. If a Democrat had dared to say such a thing, first that person wouldn't have been allowed on the air at all. But if it somehow leaked out that a Democrat had said such horrible things about the governing philosophy of Republicans, there would be a non-stop denounce-a-thon, and every Democratic candidate, office-holder, and leader down to the dog catcher of Podunk would be required to distance himself or herself from the comments.

But here we have it, straight from the horse's . . . well, one end of the horse or the other. As Spearchucker Jones said in M*A*S*H, "Use it."

8. I don't agree with him, but he seems to be in the political mainstream on this
In the past 30 years, we've heard politicians (on both sides) try to wrap up laissez-faire capitalism as some sort of magic panacea for all that ails us. The Left has lately adopted a bizarre fantasy that globalism and open-border labor exploitation and "free trade" will lead to some sort of global pseudo-socialism, despite all evidence to the contrary. Even today, Barack Obama and John McCain spar over who supports "free trade" and NAFTA the most.

So he has the bad taste to admit to the philosophy held by almost every American politician.

12. And using his philosophy, we do not have to "support the troops."
These nutcases - their own arguments lead logically to where they don't want to go!

10. Sounds like a typical Ayn Rand fan, attempting to make virtues out of
shallow self-interest and greed.

11. What is Hoenig's first name? I didn't see it in the article.
This man is horrible. I suppose good parents adopt children from foster care for selfish reasons, with no consideration that they are helping a child?
