Bush Administration Trying To Redefine Contraception As Abortion
http://www.speaker.gov/blog/?p=1441

July 16th, 2008 by Karina

The New York Times reports that the Bush Administration’s Department of Health and Human Services is drafting a rule that would place new restrictions on domestic family planning programs. While current law allows health care providers and professionals to refuse to provide abortions based on their religious beliefs, this provision would threaten the funding of organizations and health facilities if they do not hire people who would refuse to provide birth control and defines abortion so broadly that it would include many types of birth control, including oral contraception.

Speaker Pelosi released the following statement on the Administration’s draft proposal:

If the Administration goes through with this draft proposal, it will launch a dangerous assault on women’s health.

The majority of Americans oppose this out of touch position that redefines contraception as abortion and represents a sustained pattern of the Bush Administration to reject medical and sound science in favor of a misguided ideology that has no place in our government.

I urge the President to reject this policy and join with Democrats to focus on preventing unintended pregnancies and reducing the need for abortion through increasing access to family planning services and access to affordable birth control.

1. How can a woman control her life, if she can't control the number of babies she has?
She can't and that is why idiot christians want to take away her birth control. Woman will once again become slaves to their biology and to the men in power. Religion and government joined together to make women powerless.

How can any woman vote for a repuke?

3. I suspect that even sterilization procedures could fall under these rules.
Not that women want to go that far if they only want temporary relief from getting pregnant until they are ready.

I attended a Catholic wedding several months ago. One of the last instructions from the officiating priest to the young couple was to accept all of the children God has planned for them. I'm surprised people didn't break out laughing over such a statement. These two young people are living in a shack they renovated while they attend college. The last thing they need is children right now.

Thank goodness that a serious Catholic like Pelosi understands this issue.

6. That's the whole point....making women powerless, barefoot
and pregnant. I don't see how any hard working Republican woman could support this crap.

8. This is EXACTLY what this is about - not morality, or anything else. It's about CONTROLLING WOMEN.
The morality bullshit is just a pretense - ANY OTHER EXCUSE for outlawing or restricting birth control or abortion is a pretentious excuse for "we just want to CONTROL WOMEN".

11. To be precise, controlling "slutty behavior".
In my perspective, their goal is to punish any female who has sex who isn't married. Pre-marital sex was considered "slutty behavior" about 75 years ago, and has remained a leading cause of pregnancy, throughout Human history.

Anti-choice women would do just as well to wear a burqa, and go along with what the males in their Church say. Seriously, any anti-choice women here reading this post really need to get back in line and obey their Dominant male figure of the Church, be it a Padre or Patron or Priest, etc... Go hide in shame some more! You already know it's your fault your husband is sexually attracted to you!

4. Another bit of proof that these people are INSANE
I hope this is all over the airwaves VERY SOON!

And I wonder what the bogus, astroturf swiftboater "PUMAS", who claim to be Dems who refuse to vote for Obama because of the "sexism" towards Clinton in the primaries, will have to say about this.

Since they're SO concerned about sexism, then I'm SURE they'll be all over this development!:sarcasm:
