Gov: Chicago may get troopers, National Guard
chicagotribune.com

CHICAGO - Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Wednesday raised the possibility of bringing in state troopers or even the Illinois National Guard to help Chicago combat a recent increase in violent crime -- an offer that Mayor Richard Daley didn't know was coming.

Appearing at signing ceremony for a bill that toughens the penalty for adults who provide guns to minors, Blagojevich said "violent crime in the city of Chicago is out of control."

"I'm offering resources of the state to the city to work in a constructive way with Mayor Daley to do everything we can possibly do to help ... stop this violence," said the governor.

Blagojevich said Daley had not asked for help and he had not talked to the mayor about offering it, adding he would call Daley after he met later in the day with the state police, National Guard and others.

1. Ok for shits and giggles, what will the NG do?
Engage in urban warfare suppression? Tanks and Special Forces units to pacify the citizens, and those who are caught in illicit acts, then what? Guantanamo?

4. You misspelled "coprocracy"
That would be Greek for, "government by crap."

(Yes, I know what "corpocracy" means :hi: )

11. I think that would be choirocracy

Or maybe gourounocracy, depending on which word for "pig" that's used. (I used http://www.kypros.org/cgi-bin/lexicon for the help.)

Added: I found this archived link promoting the use of "kakistocracy", meaning "government by the worst."

6. Blagojevich is trying to get back at Daley before Fitzgerald indicts him.
it`s a big power struggle in Illinois over which faction of the democratic machine is going to take the governor`s office and who`s going to be appointed senator......nothing is going to happen

7. They're going to use those guys for voter suppression, aren't they? Or worse.
How long until Blackwater shows up, like they did after Katrina?

8. For some reason I thought gun bans reduced crime...
but I may have been wrong considering the situation in Chicago and Washington D.C.

The recent SCOTUS ruling will probably mean Chicago will have to allow some form of private gun ownership.

It's hard to imagine how much more the violence will rise with the introduction of guns in the hands of honest citizens. Perhaps Chicago can follow Washington D.C. and implement a obstacle course for gun registration so difficult to navigate that only a very few wealthy and connected people will be able to qualify.

Perhaps they can show great wisdom and restrict handgun ownership to only revolvers, again like Washington D.C. Why would anyone need one of those new fangled semi-auto handguns when they can have a tried and true basically obsolete weapon.

Of course it should be necessary to require all firearms to undergo ballistics tests to make sure they have never been used in a crime. You bring your weapon in for ballistic testing and it would take at least six months but no longer than 2 years to complete.

Maybe Chicago can implement draconian storage laws for firearms. If done properly, a firearm would be almost impossible to retrieve and use in case of a home break in.

At least the murder rate will not be increased by honest citizens shooting criminals in self defense.

10. My daughter was assaulted in Chicago about a week ago.
Fortunately, the cops drove by and probably saved her from
something really bad. As it was she escaped with some bruises
and scrapes and a grope.
Personally, I think Chicago DOES need to do something-
especially where the gangs are concerned.
