A list of Who is Funding California's #8 antigay marriage proposition
Sent to me from a friend, pass it on!

California Proposition 8, on the November ballot seeks to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. ImageThis would nullify the recent court decision legalizing same-sex marriage. To date (as of July 16, 2008), ProtectMarriage.com has raised $3,547,548. Here is a list of the donors with total contributions over $1,000. A separate table provides details of contributions to the largest donor, National Organization for Marriage:

4. Most of these people sound "Christian" which
makes me wonder why they do not believe in Judge not, lest you be judged. Why a segment of the population can tell others how to live their lives is stupid.

Oh no, we don't get involved in politics.

And look, the Catholics are certainly well represented.

21. And just for the record, I was raised mormon. I grew up in the church.
Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 12:18 AM by Raster
Baptized and confirmed. I come from an old-line Arizona mormon family. I was extremely devout until I parted ways with the church because of my sexuality. I am fully aware of their "biases." I am also a student of religious history, including mormon religious history. The mormon church has more than their fair share of skeletons in their Salt Lake City closet. More than their fair share.

Do you know why the religious hypocrites are so scared of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders? Because our sexuality, which we KNOW is not just a "choice" undermines their sanctimonious pronouncements and revelations. Our inborne sexuality calls into question their mythical scripture, false prophets and their childish gods.

9. I would look at the Caster Family
and see if mommy and daddy's money isn't being funneled to them for the purpose of making political donations. If so, then that is a felony violation of election law.

12. The donations are a bit odd, aren't they?
A family of self-proclaimed 'entertainers' each donating the same amount?

$18,200 each, except for the pastor?

11. Knights of Columbus gave $550,000
$500,000 from the national office and $50,000 from the state office. What a colossal waste of money. Of course the K of C has been taken over by the extreme right in the past few years and I have not or do not plan to join them. That large sum could go to so many more needy causes. No more Tootsie Rolls for me with fundraisers.

Oh well...at the rate that people are buying cars these days, they can afford to pick and choose who buys from them... :sarcasm:

16. There's now a movement to boycott Doug Manchester's 3 hotels (2 in San Diego, 1 in Idaho)
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 11:47 PM by bob_weaver
Because he donated $125,000 in his own name to the campaign in favor of Prop. 8, and an additional $125,000 in the name of "Manchester Financial Group." So a total of $250k from him. He's a jerk anyway, but this makes it worse. More info at:

19. That "Richard Perozich" entry is intriguing to me...
He was the pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic church in San Diego, and used to write articles in the local Catholic newspaper which were usually typical anti-"gay movement" stuff. Then he suddenly left to be a missionary in Bolivia. My good friend who knows a lot of people in the San Diego diocese told me that the bishop of San Diego asked Perozich to leave the diocese. People had been coming to Perozich's office for help with personal problems, and he was very judgemental and hurt the feelings of a lot of individual parishoners. There were enough complaints that the bishop decided to send him off to Bolivia for 3 years. Now I see he is back as the PASTOR of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Escondido, Calfornia, a good 30 to 35 miles away from his former parish, but still in the same Diocese of San Diego. I know Bishop Robert Brom is really conservative in his views and it doesn't surprise me too much that the bishop would forgive Perozich for the past and let him back into the diocese again... I see his views haven't changed a bit, if he is able to donate $2,000 to the anti-gay ballot proposition. The entry right below his, Salvatore Cordileone, is the auxiliary bishop of the San Diego Diocese, working hand in hand with Brom.

20. Please correct me if I am wrong, but aren't vows of poverty part of the vows of catholic clergy?
A catholic pastor that has taken a vow of poverty has thousands to donate to anti-gay causes? Perhaps he felt making sure two gay men can't marry is far more important than feeding the hungry or healing the sick. What would Jesus do?

23. Yes it is part of their vows. One thing I left out is this:
When he was in Bolivia, Perozich came back at least 2 times to the San Diego area to hold fundraisers. One was at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, where he was formerly a pastor. Another was at the Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá. These fundraisers were large dinners of about 1,000 people each. My mom went to the first one. Quite a few people at the Sacred Heart parish still like him and have no idea why he left as pastor. Women in particular seem to be under a spell cast by him, even though I would not classify him as particularly good-looking a lot of women seem to think he is. He became a priest late in life, his wife died and he became a priest in his late 40s. He had an oil painting of himself made and put in the rectory office at Sacred Heart. I could go on with more gossipy stories about him, because my Mom did volunteer work at the rectory when he was there, but that's not the point of this post. Let's just say I don't think he kept many of his vows, if any. The point is he was able to come back briefly and hold these huge fundraising dinners. I believe they charged $25 per person, but they got about 1,000 people to go to each one, so he did make off with a pretty good haul. These dinners happened about 4 years ago. He may have done even more than the 2 dinners I know happened. I don't know what the stated cause was that the proceeds were going to, but I think it was some murky promise of funding the missionary work and/or helping people in need in Bolivia or something. I see now there was some left over to donate to the anti-gay Prop. 8.

Publisher of the San Diego Reader.

He must have blown his wad on his third attempt to get a "parental notification" intitiative passed.
