"My Brother Was Killed on 9/11 with Republicans and Democrats"
Andrew Rice
My Brother Was Killed on 9/11 with Republicans and Democrats

My older brother David Rice was a Democrat. He was killed on the 104th floor of the South Tower in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11th, 2001.

David was killed with Republicans, Independents, and Democrats. On that day, they were not members of political parties, they were Americans.

...............

My brother was murdered alongside people who gave money to George W. Bush's 2000 Campaign and voted for him. He died among others who did the same for Al Gore. He was killed alongside Christians and non-Christians. All of the victims had families who loved them. All of the victims and our families want Americans to be safe and free. All of us.

We have a choice. We can find ways to set out as American citizens to rescue our politics and our faith in the American system so we can meet the complex challenges together, or we can continue to extinguish the dwindling faith everyday Americans have for our political parties, and thereby reduce the public policies of the future to shallow and meaningless attacks against each other.

2. Thank you for posting this.
We do not agree with the Republicans, but they are our countrymen. Some of them will come around, and remember that they love their country more than their party. As to the rest, well we must remember that we love our country more than our party too.

3. I am not so sure about the Republicans being "our countrymen" ...
it seems that plenty of them would sell out to the highest bidders ...

5. I don't mean the politicians, policy wonks, lobbyists per say.
I mean the voters. As much as we like to portray them as toothless, inbred, crazed racists, many of them are merely deluded working folk who don't know where to turn for good government. We will have to win these people over, not necessarily in this election, (this time we must win and regain the levers of power) but over time we must do this if we are to save our nation.

6. Problem is that too many Americans want to follow sports and TV entertainment, not politics.

4. A noble sentiment, but...
it's no one else but W who has created the divide in American politics.

Faith in the American system is best rescued by marginalizing the neocon agenda as effectively and quickly as possible. As long as the GOP accepts that as their own, they're a fair target. The attacks are anything but meaningless and shallow.

9. Andrew Rice instead of Inhofe for Senator
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 06:14 PM by memory
Andrew is my State Senator in the most progressive district of Oklahoma City. He is running for the US Senate against incumbent Jim Inhofe. Needless to say, in the very Red state of Oklahoma, he is waging a very tough battle. There are progressives here but we are outnumbered and all of the media is blatantly right wing. There is still hope because a VERY large amount of people are fed up with Inhofe. The entire world would benefit if Andrew were to replace Inhofe as Senator. Please consider helping his campaign if you are able.:hi:
